Decent rooms, delicious food, amazing view
We stayed three nights here while we were visiting Jasper. The room is nothing special but it was clean and nicely maintained. The view from our balcony made up for it - too bad the blinds on our front window couldn't be opened to enjoy it from inside also. The food at the restaurant is expensive but also top notch - every server we dealt with was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The lake itself is lovely, you couldn't ask for a prettier spot to sleep.
Pyramid Lake Tasting Menu
It sounded perfect. An outdoor patio overlooking Pyramid Lake enjoying a tasting menu dinner. Not so fast. First course a slice of store-bought bread with cold raspberry butter, that never did melt, unsalted, never did eat it. The next, heirloom tomatoes with crispy baguette, etc, etc. One cherry tomato with a super-thin slice of toasted baguette. Third, scallops with - whatever it was, I don't remember. Except it was scallop, not scallops. Entree Alberta Bison. 2 slices, barely cuttable with a steak knife - so tough, didn't finish. Dessert was deconstructed strawberry shortcake. Sigh. Pulled apart muffin with strawberries and meringue scattered about. The bill for 2? $350 with a bottle of wine. Tourist trap. Stay away. Do not repeat our mistake.
Pretty place, but be prepared to pay for everything.
This place is pricey to begin with. You pay the activity fee then find there is so many restrictions, you end up paying for everything anyway. The amenities they advertise are not as advertised so read the fine print. Restaurant has amazing food and great staff, but be prepared to pay through the nose there also. Everything is first come first serve, so you end up waiting around for stuff that was supposed to be included in your activity fee. A beautiful spot, but not as great as it appears. If you’re a family travelling on a budget, don’t come here.
We did enjoy our stay and we kept coming back here. The hotel property is perfect for family who would like to have a quite and relaxing stay. The views and the lakes is amazing. The Manager Ralph and his team knows how to pay attention to the details. The staff is friendly and Jesus from Maintenance is very accommodating. We have stayed in Cavell suites, and it has amazing character features with great views of the mountain and the lakes. We will surely be back and stay to this property and will explore more the area.
Gorgeous Lake, Horrible Dining Experience
The lake and the mountain views are gorgeous. The canoe, kayak, paddle board, etc. rentals were great and the staff was fantastic. The cabins were cute and clean. My sister and I had been having a very enjoyable stay up until a very unpleasant encounter by a rude and condescending waiter at The Pines restaurant. I was left with the impression that the waiter thought that the restaurant was somehow above us. I don't know if us being Indigenous had anything to do with it but it was unacceptable either way. I have been to several Michelin-star restaurants and frequent fine dining establishments and the staff has always been gracious and accommodative. Not so at The Pines. We were treated so poorly that it made us feel unwelcome at the resort and put a damper on the rest of our time there. The first night we tried the 5-course tasting menu, which is an excellent concept, but which fails on execution: bland, flavourless cauliflower puree, olive oil-soaked oyster mushrooms, and distastefully-seasoned quinoa. We didn't complain (to be clear, I wasn't expecting Jean Georges or Alinea but I did think that it would have been better than it was), we paid the bill and thanked the waiter. The next day, when I explained to the waiter that I would like to see the kids menu because there wasn't anything that I liked on the regular menu and that I would happily pay adult prices, he was rude, condescending, and dismissive. Refused to provide me with a kids menu and refused to help us. We won't be returning to Pyramid Lake Resort because of the way that we were treated and we won't be recommending it to friends and family either.
