A Huge Disappointment
Booked two nights after reading their webpage. After paying($234+tax per night) , we were told that there was no elevator and breakfast not included. The room had no AC or heat. There was a list of the amenities but, nothing was in the room. Not even a full roll of toilet paper. They would send up anything you wanted but you had to be in the room to receive it. We couldn't recommend the restaurant either. The location of the stairs were not signed. Some of the exit signs lights were not on. Didn't see any sigh of fire fighting equipment. The only plus was when we left after the first night they refunded the money for the second night.
Prime location in Lake Louise. Someone should demolish this place and reconstruct a nice, clean, modern, basic hotel. It would be nice to have plug-ins in the room, temperature control, sealed units without gnats and spiders coming into the room/bathroom. A better set up to put ones luggage and belongings. Too rustic and non-functional for me. Too hot. Dim lighting. Not enough lights. Non-stop heat and no way to control it. No plug-ins, except in the bathroom and behind the bed - which you have to move to get to. I was making coffee in the bathroom balancing the coffee maker on the small ledge of the sink! My hairdryer blew the fuse each time I used it. No vanity or counter space in the bathroom. We did not eat in their restaurant as we had a vegetarian and there was hardly a selection. The place is pretty run-down and grungy. That’s why it’s cheap. I’d rather pay a little more for a more modern set up. Despite all this, the ONLY redeeming feature was the terrific location, right next to Lake Louise - a 2 min walk. The staff that work here were nice enough. This would be an alternative to those who want to camp.
Lovely two nights at Deer Lodge
Great place to stay if you want access to the lake, the hiking, the townsite and don't want to pay the exorbitant fees at the Fairmont. The property is a bit dated but clean and quite, staff is all friendly and professional. We had breakfast twice, tasty with lots of value. Rooms were clean and quiet, very comfortable bed. We overlooked the road to the lake, but it was very quiet and not busy during the evening and overnight, so we left the windows open to the sound of nearby creek. Lovely! The old time photos and history of the area was also nice. The proximity to the lake and the hiking trails was the big draw for us. Would go back.
Old time funky fun
We loved our stay! Part of the charm is that this place is oooooold and the prior review that said it reminded him of the hotel in “the Shining” was a bonus ... I’m just so tired of boring cookie cutter hotels every where I go. Deer Lodge Pros: great staff, excellent food, comfy beds, right at Lake Louise (parking is no problem) good wifi, horseback riding place in the back. Extra pros (in my mind) multiple rambling stairs and hallways, cool photos and stuff from the 20’s, endless 20s soundtrack in the dining room , ACTUAL horror movie filmed on site - Ghostkeeper 1981 ! Cons: walls thin, some kind of poltergeist in the pipes than moans and likes to change the temperature This is not a hotel pretending to be an old property, it really is and has the wear marks to prove it. We loved it for what it is ❤️
Don't go there
The worst experience, dirty and run down,no one seem to be in charge, the restaurant also dirty ditto goes to restaurant bathroom, and the the overpriced food, 12 dollars for a bowl of tasteless soup.......I could go on you get the picture, Don't go!
