Old and full of character, the new rooms are of a really high quality, can’t say the same of the old rooms, food was excellent a real positive, dining room and lounge are great, it was minus -25 to -32 when we were there and the old heating couldn’t deal with that cold temperatures although we did tackle the outdoor hot tub at -19, great location for skiing and visiting the chateau.
What a spectaclar location
This is an amazing place to spend a few days in the winter or summer. World class scenery and trails all around. It the winter there are loads of groomed cross country ski trails, and also packed hiking trails. It really unbelievably gorgeous scenery and a great value at Deer Lodge
Love this Hotel!
We have been returning to Deer Lodge for many years now. We love the family room in the historic part. It’s spacious and comfortable! It’s easy to get to the Lake Louise Ski Resort from the hotel. We have the option of the shuttle to the hill which we have used. The rooftop hot tub and mountain view, the helpful staff and reasonable price of the family rooms in the historic have us coming back. We have stayed elsewhere at Lake Louise but not after we discovered Deer Lodge! We find the restaurant great for breakfast and enjoy trying out the nearby restaurants for dinner. We have also stopped at the cafes in the village for breakfast sandwiches on our way to the hill. Check out the family room, it has one double bed, one single bed and a couch at a very reasonable price! We will return and recommend it to others as well.
I only rated the sleep quality a little lower because the room was quite warm and there were some loud people staying above us.The fold out couch my daughter slept on was fairly uncomfortable as well. But otherwise we loved the place and will stay again one day.
It ll depends on what you're looking for
So it's Family weekend and everywhere is booked and also charging an arm and a leg. We first tried the Fairmont Chateau but at $500/night we didn't feel the facilities worth the cost. Our plan was to do more hiking than anything else so we opted for Deer Lodge which was at $574 for 2 nights and about a 5 minute walk from Lake Louise which was perfect. The hotel is rustic but comfy. The rooms were average and the beds were comfortable, but if you're looking for a 4 or 5 star room, this is not the place. Deer Lodge could use some upgrading, without a doubt and although we did see a vacuum cleaner in the hallway each day, we did not see evidence of any cleaning. We had used the game room that was downstairs and when we went back the next night, there was no question that no one had attempted to clean up the room. But like I said, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're ok with a college dorm style facility, this is your place. I didn't mind it but others in our group weren't impressed but I reminded them that we weren't looking for impressive or we'd have paid the $500/night at the Chateau. There is a rooftop hot tub, but it was usually completely full of college age students surrounded by coolers of "not allowed" alcohol. There's a pool table in the basement Games Room which was nice. There are also 2 restaurants at Deer Lodge and we ate in the Caribou Lounge and the food was quite good and not crazy priced. So overall, the stay was comfortable and we had access to what we were looking to do in Lake Louise.
