one of the best
this is a beautiful lodge ,nicely set on the outskirt of the national park but a lot of animals have set camp in and outside the fence...very friendly welcome from the staff singing and dancing on our arrival , the food and the accomodation was great..we had a lot of good game drives specially chasing a leopard near the airport and being warned by an aggressive elephant . the attack stopped about 30 meters from our vehicle ,his mate probably told him that we were not the cat , the national park was full of animals..friendly elephants , giraffes , impalas , kudus , crocs hippos and two lionesses with five cubs and ugly marabous ...we really enjoyed the place...coming to Botswana was a trip...crossing the Zambezi from Zambia by boat we landed in Zimbabwe, two steps we were in Botswana and 50 meters across the road was Namibia very exiting indeed
A vacation resort as perfect as you can get
We enjoyed our stay at this world class resort. Food, service, and safari we're excellent. It can say enough good things about our stay. The staff got us everything we needed. For example our door was working properly and with minutes the maintenance person fixed it at 20 hh.
Fantastic from beginning to end!
This was the most fantastic game lodge that I have stayed at. The staff were incredible – always so cheerful and friendly, and couldn’t do enough for you, whether it was the manager or the person who walked you to and from your room. Wonderful to be greeted on arrival by the staff singing to you. Each time you arrived at the Lodge [from game drives as well as first arrival] you were always met by the staff and they always gave you a cool towel. I had an excellent room with all mod cons, including a free minibar with wine of my choice if it was not there. Room service snacks were available, so I often had lunch in my room while I did my photos after a game drive. My guide, Leonard, was exceptional. He took us out twice a day in the morning in the park and in the afternoon usually on the river. We saw so much game it was incredible. I think he has binocular eyes! They have a lovely pool so you can relax there between drives - while I was there Bushbucks, mongoose and baboons visited the pool. The whole experience of Chilwero was amazing, and I was made to feel important by every member of the staff. Would love to return!
Absolutely disappointing and NOT recommended
My family and I were travelling around botswana this christmas from one safari to the other, and we were very much looking forward to staying in Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero, however it was this day truly THE WORST experience i have been in my life, and considering the category of this hotel and their prices per night this is NOT acceptable. Firstly, the common rooms were FULL of dead bugs (moths, spiders, mosquitos) that people killed during the night and no one bothered to clean.. absolutely shameful. Secobdly, at night it was IMPOSSIBLE to have dinner as the staff left all windows open (and turned on lights) so you were attacked by hordes of giant moths (between the 5 of us each dinner time we probably killed around 50), everyone kept getting up, trying to them out of the dinner plates, out of the bread baskets where there were some dead and some alive... and when we mentioned “ why dont you close the windows as soon as it goes dark” they said “ahhh what a good idea” are you serious??? 5* hotel and this is truly a novelty? And last but not at all least the bedrooms were FILTHY. During the day we killed dozens of big spiders lurking about, and as we thought this strange at night we check underneath the beds, and what a surprise to find THOUSANDS of spider webs with spiders underneath the beds, behind the beds, behind cubboards, in the bathroom ceiling, behing the bath..(three bedrooms all with the same issues). When we told the GM he had absolutely no excuse, as the issue was that they do not clean properly, they merely change beds and clean on the surface, not caring about anything else. In a high quality hotel this is not acceptable, especially one in the middle of nature where it should be expected for you to clean much more thoroughly. After we all complained we got moved to rooms that were cleaned by a whole team (see, not so hard to clean right?). The issue for me here clearly and for everyone we talked to there is the GM of the hotel, a person who is not clean, who doesnt care about excelence or about cleanliness or simple tasks like planning around the bugs and spiders so your guests can enjoy dinner. I think the phrase to summarize would be: when true complacency kills a business. I would NOT recommend this hotel to even my worst enemy. I have never been happier to leave a place.
