A Bajan Gem
Our fourth visit to Barbados and our third to an Elegant Resort. This year we chose Waves on the west coast. In past years we’ve sailed past Waves on our catamaran cruises (Elegance - see my other reviews) and from the ocean it doesn’t look particularly inviting. Don’t be fooled though, this is a lovely intimate first class hotel. We booked an ocean-front duplex room (325 moved to 326) and they are worth the additional premium, particularly if you have a child or children. They come with stocked mini-bar and decanters of spirits. The rooms are modern, comfortable and very well furnished. Bathrooms are well appointed with very good products. Being very honest, we did have a few issues with plumbing in the bathroom, hence the need to change rooms. This did cause us some anxiety and a false-start to the holiday, but I have to say that the hotel management, led by Kim, did all they could to address the issues. It would be wrong to focus on these issues, as the review would lack the required balance. Special thank you to Krystal for listening. Quite simply this is the nicest hotel we’ve stayed at in Barbados. My favourite hotel anywhere in the Caribbean is Sensatori Negril in Jamaica, where the food, service and setting are exceptional. Here at Waves the food is even better and the service is outstanding from every member of the team, from management, restaurant staff, beach ambassadors, housekeeping to maintenance. Just wonderful, warm and genuinely friendly people. I won’t single any individual out, as that would be unfair. A bit more on the food. The level and presentation is in my opinion very high restaurant standard. You can eat from a very varied menu at both restaurants and portion sizes are spot on. The coffee shop is lovely for a change during the day. The chef and the team should be really proud of what they produce. All round the best food we’ve eaten at a hotel, anywhere in the world. The dress code for dinner is pleasingly upheld and I didn’t see anyone trying to get around it. My only request would be to allow nice sandals / flip-flops for men (not beach flip-flops) that look well with smart tailored shorts. Wearing shoes is not great in the heat and this relaxation wouldn’t impact on standards. The beach is lovely, big enough for the size of hotel. Never had a problem getting beds or an umbrella, even though the hotel was full. Beach service is wonderful from the ambassadors, a constant flow of frozen fruit, drinks, cold towels and ice-cream. Swimming is good and snorkelling off the beach. We had 8 treatments included with the room rate. I didn’t use the spa, but my wife did and said the service and treatments were excellent. The hotel caters for families and couples, and it works surprisingly well. Adults have a lovely pool area, next to the spa and Shiso restaurant. Don’t be put off about the road that splits the hotel, not a problem at all. Entertainment is typical Caribbean and very good. Evenings are very laid back. For those looking for a lively night there is plenty nearby. Couples and families mixed very well. Would we return, yes, most definitely. For me the hotel fully meets what it sets out to achieve. As we enter the last few days of our holiday I can only thank Kim and everyone at Waves for a wonderful time. Mark, Lisa & Josh x
Waves Hotel is a hidden gem in Barbados
The excellent reviews are correct. Waves Hotel is awesome. From the start, check in with scented towels and a cool drink, every attempt is made for u to relax and enjoy. They take care of everything else. The Mgr actually checks on u. Shoutouts to Valerie in the Buffet and ice cream shop, beautiful personality. Also mention to Pauline in Housekeeping so friendly. The employees and mgmt at this resort are amazing and reflective of the spirit of the Bajan people. So genuine and kind. The resort is breathtaking..oceanfront lobby and the pool side rooms are so tranquil. No request was too much. They bring u ice cream, frozen treats and drinks on the beach/pool. The beach was gorgeous and the excursions were all set up for us thru the hotel. Rochelle at reception handled it all with a smile and knowledge..All we had to do was show up. The ala carte food was good and plentiful. Barbados is now one of my favorite Islands thanks to this resort and its people. They do it right at Waves Resort and Spa.

We enjoyed a fantastic holiday at Waves Hotel and Spa last week, where all the staff were superb, food excellent and cocktails even better. The hotel’s location on the beach on the west coast is second to none with easy taxi journeys available. I thoroughly recommend Tony’s taxi and his taste in music, particularly the Boat Ride song to get you in the party mood. Special mention to Jackie and the rest of the reception team for sorting out trips, taxis and general advice. The chef and his team for providing fantastic food and also preparing the fresh tuna we caught! Thanks to all the restaurant staff for looking after us so well, including Jennifer and Honey plus a special mention to Christine for supplying our healthy drinks at breakfast (which Helen loved) and her big smile every time she saw us. Finally thank you to all the beach staff and Pamela who supplied us with endless drinks throughout our days on the beach. The spa treatments were superb as was the evening entertainment. Overall the most relaxing and best holiday we have had for a long time. No hesitation in recommending this hotel and staff to anyone and can’t wait to return. Paul and Helen Alexander
this was our 3rd stay on the island, and have to say that this is the best hotel we have stayed at. the rooms were modern, bright and very comfortable the food was perhaps the best hotel food we have experienced. Staff are excellent and make a point of knowing your name within a day or 2, and make you feel welcome and valued. If you are looking at an elegant hotel to stay at, this is head and shoulders above the others in terms of food, accommodation, and friendliness. which is down to the management team. Special thanks to Andre who was brilliant with the girl "mafia", and Valerie in Seascape
