I don't understand the negative reviews about this resort. The entire resort was beautiful. We booked a swim-up club-level room to celebrate our 24th anniversary and the room was amazing. We weren't able to swim in the swim-up pool because it was always so chilly. It was shaded in the afternoon. We did notice as some other reviewers noted, that we definitely received better service at this Sandals location when we tipped. We saw this with housekeeping, bartenders, and wait staff. We tried to fit in all of the restaurants and most were very good. At Soy, Gilbert made some great sushi. The chef that we had a Kimono's was very entertaining! At Neptune's, Tracy and Sharice both provided great service. We were very impressed with the service at Chi, where Ranisha brought all of our food and drinks right away. Stacey at Parisienne provided friendly service and Valery at Merry Monkey did also. Jana and Larkin at the Sky bar were also friendly and knowledgeable about all kinds of drinks. Other bartenders who provided great service were Triston and Eugene at the bar near Bombay, and Latoya and Romel at the piano bar. Dale did a great job playing the piano and getting the crowd involved at the piano bar. Chadric at the Lover's Lane bar was also friendly and attentive. Marian at the Island Routes desk and Kyle at the gift shop also provided great service. The only poor service that we really had during our stay was at Butch's Steak and Seafood. When we arrived, it appeared that they couldn't find our reservation, although we had the card with us from the Club concierge. They started to seat us next to the pool, but since it was very humid and windy, we asked to be seated inside. The hostess did not seem pleased about that. Our waitress, who did not have a name tag on, barely spoke to us and did not ask us if we needed more water or wine. The food took quite some time to arrive, which we understood, but when it arrived, the lobster tails and steaks were overcooked. As some other reviewers had mentioned, the shower in our room was usually cold. During the morning and afternoon, we had to generally wait about 15-20 minutes for the water to warm up. We figured this was just because there were so many guests using hot water during that time. We booked two excursions through the Island Routes desk. The first was the sea turtle and shipwreck excursion. We definitely enjoyed this experience and would recommend it. We also booked the 4 x 4 best of Barbados excursion. This excursion literally took us around almost the entire island! We would recommend this excursion, but we were very sore after driving around sideways in that vehicle all day. We enjoyed seeing all of the sights around the island though. The entire entertainment staff did a great job! We went to all of the nightly shows and felt like they were very entertaining. It was apparent that the staff worked very hard to prepare for the shows. Overall, we were very happy with the week that we spent at Sandals Royal Barbados. Before we left, we booked a trip to another Sandals resort!
Another great trip but not wonderful
We stayed in November 2021, our second stay at this lovely resort. We had a butler sea view room. Butlers were fabulous, spa was amazing (ask for Sasha), restaurants were varying. Sometimes really good (not amazing) sone times very mediocre. Always a really great place to stay
WOW! Can’t understand any of the negative reviews
We landed back in the U.K. 2 days ago and I’m still not over the depression of no longer being at Sandals Royal Barbados. We had a sensational time and can’t fault this resort. Everything was immaculate, we had wonderful service wherever we went and had such an incredible and relaxing time, We visited this resort for my wife’s 30th birthday and we had the best holiday experience we’ve ever had. We stayed in a millionaire butler suite so everything was sensational. This started with the transfer from the airport in one of Sandal’s Rolls Royce, such a smooth and incredible start to our holiday. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by Tre, one of our three butlers, who showed us around the hotel & to our room. We’d submitted our preferences in advance and he’d organised all our dinner reservations for the week. The room was AMAZING and it was bigger than the flat we lived in up until a few years ago! Our butler team, Tre, Nakeisha & Shaq couldn’t do enough for us. We’re fairly low maintenance overall and because we didn’t ask for much I think they went out of their way to anticipate what we’d like. Whether this was some pizzas arriving to our chairs by the pool, or a plate of coconut shrimp to our room, or appearing at our chairs with nice fruity drinks before the bars had open they were exceptional and made our holiday extra special. They also set up a lovely surprise for my wife on her birthday. The food at the resort is incredible. Soy was my favourite restaurant and we visited twice. Gilbert the sushi chef was exceptional there, he knew everyone’s orders and kept the whole kitchen running smoothly. Both Butch’s restaurants were excellent as was the Pub and American Tavern, the only place that I could take or leave was Chi where I thought the food was average… but that could just be my personal preference. One thing to note too, the staff at Sandals are super careful about allergies. I’m allergic to pineapple (makes me hallucinate and be hideously sick) and they were careful to advise on dishes that contained pineapple and were happy to make adjustments to drinks. Speaking of drinks… they were awesome, from a breakfast mimosa to a Bob Marley, they were all delicious. The facilities at the resort are great, all the pools are phenomenal, the various bars are all well stocked and the bar staff are exceptional. A highlight for us was the craft beer bar and the bowling alley. Having a wide range of beers was excellent and I’ve discovered a love of bowling too. Anyway, don’t listen to any of the negative reviews, this place is great. Go, have an amazing holiday and leave a great review. I think people are too keen to just look for negatives and leave negative comments rather than relax and find the positives. We’ll be back!
Overall a great stay
We return from Royal Barbados last week. Over all it was a great trip. We had bought the Barbados arrival fast track when a Covid test was still required. I would not recommend this now. We moved quickly through immigration but by the time the luggage was out, everyone else was through immigration. We were immediately on the shuttle and after a short wait off to the resort. We had pre-registered on the sandals app therefore had a short wait and were off to our room. The luggage arrived shortly after. The room was clean and beautiful. Kelly was our maid. She was absolutely wonderful, and constantly kept us supplied with all the room necessities. We have never had a maid that was so attentive. Kelly deserves a promotion! While the location of the room was excellent. Here is where I take a point off for false advertising. We were in the sea horse building in a OSLB room which claims to have an ocean view. We did not even a have sliver of an ocean view. However I was aware of this possibility due to previous reviews. Sandals really needs to change the room description. The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of lounge chairs, however, sorely lacking in umbrellas. The drink service on the beach was great. We had no problem making reservations for dinner. We did make them for 6:00 pm so that may have helped. We are not foodies and the meals were fine but seemed to depend on what you ordered. I ordered brisket at the American Tavern. It looked like a slice of spam and was not tasty. We went on the resorts snorkeling trip. You are not in the water for more than 20 minutes. We saw three ship wrecks, the coral was not colorful and Sadly no turtles. We were comped a 30 minute couples massage which was wonderful. Our check out was a breeze as well as our return shuttle. Inside the departure area at the airport there are plenty of restaurants, including a subway, and shops. We were fearful about going on this trip due to the negative reviews, but the resort is on a par with all the other Sandals we have stayed at.
This is the third Sandals I visited and Sandals never disappoints. This resort is beautiful and provides so many options for entertainment and food. The staff is always on top of trying to accommodate all the guests’ needs as fast as possible. Our butler Jabari was great and Andre’ in the water sports area was super fun and helpful. The entertainment team was super good preparing every night show. This resort is so well prepared that when we had an unexpected seaweed invasion they had bulldozers cleaning the sand and provided the guests the option to shuttle to another beach with coupons for drinks to keep the “all inclusive” even in another location. Thumbs up for the management of this property and their staff.
