The dive centre team and just amazing
So there are quite a lot of mixed reviews on here since Covid, so I just wanted to come on and say what an amazing time we had with everyone at the dive shop. Their service and friendliness was amazing. Alicia, so sweet and helpful. Always saying hello and has helpful smile. Charlie amazing diving instructor, such a sweet guy, so helpful and felt very safe diving with him Shiv, again amazing! Went above and beyond. This team really stood out for me and though everyone is understaffed, these guys were always cheerful and helpful and made our holiday! Thanks so much! We had a great time, had a swim up room which is lovely, without doubt no fault. Service can be a bit slow, but this is down to Covid and everyone I spoke to was trying their best, so I would just take it with a pinch of salt. Would definitely be coming back to Sandals!!
RUINED BEACH ATMOSPHERE
We returned a few days ago and I wasn’t going to post a review but because everyone who posted before me were so helpful in my expectations I thought those who read TripAdvisor may benefit from mine. What is true: first available reservation at restaurants was 5 days after arrival, ended up going to Soy for the first 3 nights in a row – didn’t mind because it really is the best restaurant and Sherwin and Gilbert are always a pleasure to see. Yes, all the sun beds at the main pool are taken by butlers (you can tell how they are made up) by 6:00am. We witnessed this because we go down to the beach everyday by 6:00 to watch the sun come up with a bottle of bubbly – just our thing. We are (or maybe have been) VERY loyal Sandals guests. This was our 5th trip to this resort. We go here because the staff, rooms are updated, you have restaurant choices, proximity to the airport but most of all because we are beach people and this location has the best beach and water of any Sandals resorts we have been to (well Emerald Bay water and beach are great too). Now for our REAL issue: Sandals have now turned the main pool into a party/night club atmosphere from say 2 – 4 pm and the loud, unending, bass filled music and booming DJ emanates right down to the beach and we sit as close to the water’s edge as permitted. This ruined our vacation – our relaxing and napping afternoons were replaced with stress and anxiety (with the exception of day 9 of 11 because we looped how awful this was but it was back to the same the next day). We shouldn’t have to go to a pool at the back of the property to escape this when we came for the beach which entails listening to the waves and beach sounds. We are back again at Christmas and hopefully it will not be our last. If you are there now and this is an issue for you please loop your concerns – we suggested moving the party pool to the swim up pool like it usually is at other resorts but we don’t run the show. Other observations: no issues with room (both attendant and bar stocking), lots of beach chairs, added beach bars which has help a lot.
My stay at this resort 9-15 Oct 2021
So after jumping through hoops to have all the documents in order we show up at the resort. We have to get yet another COVID test just having 1 done 2 days earlier. Not a problem but they will not let you go to the beach only the pools until it comes back negative. Ridiculous! The pools were packed with limited seating. Now open air on the beach with plenty seats makes more sense, right? After 16 hr wait we finally got out of COVID JAIL and got the bands removed an was free to roam. I love the beach and I've been to Sandals over 60 stayed days. This beach was terrible! Not 1 Watersport to be done. No glass bottom boat, kayak, etc. The water was just wave after wave. I've been to Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua etc and all water was smooth and clear. There was also seaweed every where. So if you like to just sit on a chair on the beach and not go out then this is your place. The beach isn't even close to a 1/4 mile long not to mention that Sandals only has 35 ft of said beach then the rest going towards the water is public. This means that all chairs remain on Sandals property on top of each other and I mean a hand shake away from each other. Asked for coffee for 2 days and towels then finally went to front desk to be told there was a "coffee shortage" but he was able to go get me some and a bag of more towels. Service was the slowest I've ever encountered with any Sandals and the staff didn't look happy to be there. I will say that the bar (not Royal side) located by the pool had the best service and always made conversation etc. Check out was a mess. 1st of all when we arrived we were shuttled to get the "test" then to our room. Got a bill in my door charging me almost $400 extra for not showing my military ID. I checked in on line and wasn't even asked of this. They said I would be getting this credit back on my card. I booked a day trip to go into town and shop and wasn't even informed that it was cancelled. We'll see soon if I get that credit back also. Check out was a mess. The system was down so an itemized bill couldn't be received but was told they would e-mail it. Been home 3 days and finally called to be told my balance and that was it. I stayed in the room facing the ocean overlooking the pool. It was always clean and the grounds were also very well groomed. If the beach were user friendly an we could have gotten to go out in the water other than the designated area. Even though it was "public" you got scolded for going outside the sandals area. in the ocean. I would have given this resort more stars. One last thing. If you go then go up to the 6th floor of the Blue building on the Royal side. It has a pool, hot tub, restaurant and bar. The views were amazing. Only knew of this place by word of mouth. Anyone can go up there.
Extraordinary Experience ..
After a private arranged transfer from the airport we arrived expecting a bit of exclusivity (I don’t know why), but we’re ushered about and our room wasn’t ready even though it was after check in time. We tried to book some restaurants for our first night in particular and nothing available for five nights. Attitude from everybody we encountered within an hour was appalling and we heard several complaints going on, so what did we do without even seeing the room? About turn and luckily there was availability at the Sandy Lane, so we checked in for the week. A proper hotel. My advice to the hotel is, you never know who you are dealing with and message to those considering booking this place, DONT. I reimbursed the cost of this place to my girlfriend and she had no need to seek a refund. The old saying applied here “nothing is ever what it seems”
Beautiful resort - we loved it!
We returned from Sandals royal Barbados in August and having read consistently negative reviews - felt the need to add my own review. Firstly we had a fantastic holiday, the room was amazing and the ground of the hotel were beautiful. Sure there were a few minor blips, but really nothing worth lingering onto or letting ruin your holiday! Check-in was easy. A few couples arrived at the same time, we were taken for our on-site Covid test and then for some food. After this we got a quick tour to the room and given the keys, soon after our baggage was taken up. Here is my first and most important tip. Book reservations as soon as you are checked in - like as soon as you’re given you’re key card. The lady at concierge told us she would book them all for us and drop off the reservation cards before the end of the shift. An hour or so later, 5 reservation cards came through the door. Easy. Apparently the booking schedule for restaurants is Saturday to Saturday, so those arriving mid-week may have had some issues booking, but then you should be able to book once the rota restarts. We had one very long wait for Bombay - but the food was fantastic and I think we picked a day when everyone showed up at the same time. Otherwise no waits for restaurants or breakfast if you get there early. Very simple solution to dealing with any wait times - get a drink from the bar 50m away and chill out. Food was excellent, butches was our favourite, Chi was our least favourite - but still okay. Breakfast at the Parisian restaurant was our favourite. Portions can be small - sometimes we ordered 3 mains. At the steakhouses this is definitely not needed, portions are huge. Sunbeds at the mainpool were an issue, but we didn’t like the main pool. Really loud tacky pop music - even though we are in our twenties and not averse to a party - it really was not a vibe. The south seas pool played some bangers, you could always get a lounger there and was generally a much nicer vibe, so we spent most of our time there. The service at all the bars and restaurants was great. No people don’t come up to you every 20 mins and ask if you want a drink - but that was fine with us. We’re not so lazy that we can’t walk 20m to get to the nearest bar. All the staff were friendly, polite and really helpful to us. We did see some rudeness from guests towards staff, which is totally unacceptable. We didn’t book the butler service and didn’t feel like we needed it. Our room was cleaned everyday and never had any issues with room service. The diving refresher is a bit of a rip off. I did complain about the price and got a discount. I think It was around $140. We had a fantastic holiday and would definitely come back in the future. We came to enjoy ourselves, relax and not let every little thing bother us. For all the bad reviews on here there’s probably hundreds of couples who had a fantastic time enjoying themselves and not complaining. If you’re keen to relax after 18 months of Covid, eat some great food and smash some pina coladas - book it!
