Definitely Not Five Star
This was our first visit to a Sandals resort and probably our last. It just didn’t deliver what the marketing hype promised. First, the positives. The grounds were beautiful and immaculately kept. There were lots of places to eat and the food was, by Caribbean standards, pretty good. The majority of the staff were lovely and there were plenty of sun beds to go around. The negatives. When you have been travelling for 15 hours the last thing you want is to be put through a check-in process that takes over half an hour. We were given an iPad and told to fill in a questionnaire before they would give us our room key. The room was OK but certainly not five star and the entrances and corridors in the blocks were very unattractive. Only about 10% of the sun beds had mattresses so most people had to lie on rock hard beds all day - completely unacceptable at a so-called five star resort. Nightlife was very poor, nothing to do other than eat and drink. All in all, if I had paid for a three or four star experience I would have been content. This is not the five star luxury that is advertised.
Week long honeymoon stay
Staff members were fantastic and beyond helpful-- plus a lot of fun! Joy Ann at the Island Routes desk saved our tails and helped get everything booked and scheduled for our off site excursions. Rachel in the loyalty office went digging through records to find a prior Sandals stay for us. Our snuba guide made a new experience (Michael I think) so easy going and exciting and he literally ran our GoPro for us while we dove and swam around. The food across both Sandals Barbados and Royal Barbados was fantastic!! Planning where and what we were going to eat was one of our favorite parts of our trip.
We did a one week split stay. 3 nights in a Beachfront one bedroom butler suite and 4 nights in a crystal lagoon swim up one bedroom Butler suite. We did this because we had to shift our dates and availability was an issue. I would not recommend any split stay as they just don't have the ability at this resort to handle it smoothly (you end up checked out super early and in super late). Loved the Beachfront room but we did not love the swim up room (would not book one again). They are a bit basement like with limited light. Rooms aside the resort is lovely...beach is stunning..:no lack of chairs or crazy chair antics. The pools are all beautiful and there is a variety of pools (from active and loud to chill and quiet). All the restaurants were excellent...hard to get reservations where you want so do that early. All in all great place to visit!
Amazing second visit!
We jetted here with a group of peeps in 2016 and finally made it back. LOVE everything about it, compact, has every amenity and all our favorite restaurants and even has another resort next door with twice the fun and yum! Every room here is awesome, there's no wrong at all. Club level in main tower is def for first timers, great view and close to everything. Beach rocks, pools rock, food rocks, everything rocks! If you want mac n cheese, go to Butches!!!
We have just returned from a week at this resort and my summary of thoughts on our visit are: - Pros:- Nice Room Good Choice of Restaurants Surprisingly had no trouble getting a sunbed and umbrella even though this was half term Good friendly Service Nice Pools Sky Bar was fun Cons:- Housekeeping - this was really hit and miss affair and I had to complain 3 times in 7 days when we either had no washcloths, hand towels, no coffee or toiletries had not been replenished. Additionally we had 1 day when our drinks were not replenished. This really not what a five star hotel represents. Once I complained the situation was rectified, but for a supposed 5 star resort this basic requirement to make sure each room had the full inventory each day without complaining really needs to be addressed, I heard another lady complaining about the same issue. This is really a supervisory issue or the house maids should complete a check list. We have experienced this basic issue all over the world but needs to be driven down from the top. Had the housekeeping been as it should I would have given you five stars so on my experience I only rate this resort 4 star, I have had better housekeeping from 3 star establishments.
