Comfy quarantine hotel
I was allocated the ParkRoyal for twonweek quarantine after arriving in Sydney. It was July when I got there so I've had little time to think about it. I've read afew of the reviews here and people seem to have difficulty separating the hotel from the state-provided services. I'm not going to comment on the food as this was provided by a third party. The room was on the 8th or 9th floor. I've no idea what the rack rate for the room was but it was comfortable with a desk and several seating options. There was a spacious bathroom with a good shower. The room was possibly a little on the tired side but was clean and had plenty of storage. I expect that may of the rooms will be revamped once quarantine is over. On the few occasions that I had to speak to hotel staff I found them to be very professional and friendly. Sometime a difficult balance to manage. On the whole, a very positive experience. I'd probably not choose to stay at this hotel when visiting Sydney but I have nothing but admiration for all the staff working under difficult circumstances. Thank you ParkRoyal.
Wish I could have had a better experience
I had the displeasure of being put into the parkroyal hotel for 14 days quarrantine , the room was actually nice with good size TV which you could stream all desired apps , bed was good size , bathroom was nice with both bath and shower however that’s where the positives end , I contacted reception around 3 hours after I arrived 2am after a 19 hour flight from Scotland , the temp was quite warm and was told they would check this was early sun morning, (maintanance only on day shift and not weekends I later found out) and was told no issues with the aircon at their end , I left it for a few hours and the screen in the room was showing 17 degrees however felt much warmer , I ended up getting a few hours sleep but woke up at 06:30 sweating so contacted them again and was told all fine again, I had a cold shower to cool down and shortly after was heating up again, had a temp check from the nurse at the door and was showing normal , after a couple of days I started to get anxiety with the heat and not having any windows to open to cool down or get any fresh air, eventually after medical assistance I got moved however the day of the move the maintenance personnel checked my air con and temp of room, turns out thermostat was not working and room was showing 28.6 with the temp gun , absolutely terrible service , would not stay there going forward, plus most of the decor in the room was painted black , made it look even smaller
Premium prison, average hotel
This hotel would not have been my first choice for a two-week Covid-19 quarantine stay, however it did provide satisfactory lodgings with but small irritations. Overall, the rooms would rate three well-worn stars but the quarantine quarters are not likely to represent the hotel’s premium offerings so read this review accordingly. The good: my room (425) which seemed to be a Superior Room as on the hotel’s website was clean, comfortable, quiet, adequately appointed. The king bed was comfortable, the linens crisp and clean and the pillows cloud soft. The bathroom was roomy and functional, and the water supply was fine. The bath linens were clean and plentiful. Most of what was expected was there and it all worked as expected. The Wifi worked well on all my devices. I was able to cast Netflix and Google Prime streams onto the smart TV. All contact with the hotel staff was remote but they were always helpful and cooperative with any requirements. Room service food & beverage orders were a welcome break from, and a cut above, the quarantine staples supplied from elsewhere. The not so good: the furnishings are overdue for a makeover. Same with the bathroom fitings. The décor is chain hotel vanilla, but the dark painted entry managed to transmit a gloomy cave-like ambience to the rest of the room. The air-conditioning worked OK but was somewhat noisy. The sound insulation between rooms is ineffective so you will be entertained – or irritated – by the neighbourhood goings-on.
Comfortable place to quarantine or work
I quarantined in the hotel for 14 days - I think the features that made it comfortable for my solitary confinement would also make it a good base to work from: My room was big with a huge window stretching the length of the wall. I had a practical desk and an adjustable office chair. The window didn't open but the AC was controllable in-room and quiet. The wi-fi signal was always strong. I was able to connect my laptop to the TV screen with an HDMI cable - it was also chromecast enabled. The bathroom was spacious with a bathtub as well as a shower cubicle. I didn't see much of the staff but they were always delightful on the phone, sent my care packages up promptly, and sent thoughtful treats every day. They went above and beyond to make a potentially stressful experience bearable.
I am thinking this won’t be a typical review. I have just spent 14 days in enforced quarantine at the Parkroyal. I was dreading the experience. However, at a time where the hotel could have got away with doing the absolute minimum they did just the opposite. The staff ensured I was made to feel welcome and that they truly cared that my two weeks would pass as easy as possible. The room was nice the views were great which all helped. But above all else, the staff were impressive. I will absolutely return when Covid is done.
