Best hotel in Sydney
The Ovolo Wooloomooloo hotel is an absolute must choice when visiting Sydney. Despite the current market conditions the hotel is still open for business and the excellent staff are as attentive and kind as ever. I’ve been lucky to stay in one of the larger suites both times I have stayed and my what a treat! Gorgeous views, huge spacious two storey space and even an in-room bar. Loved waking up to a gorgeous sunny Saturday and the location down by the water was perfect for a lovely morning stroll. There was a little foodie market stall just along the wharf, perfect for a takeaway morning coffee.
We stayed in a room with two washrooms, the bed up in a loft, a sky light and beautiful view of the wharf. This experience was different but fun. you walk into the reception area and can't help but to look up and around the interior is amazing and still retains it's historical roots. This was a great stay July 2019 and we'd stay here again for sure.
When the room is actually better than it looks in the photos...
This is the best hotel experience you could ask for. The rooms are spacious and so thought through, the staff is excellent, the hotel is an architectural beauty. I stayed for eight days and it felt more like being at home than in a hotel. During the same trip to Sydney I also stayed at The Fullerton Sydney for two nights. The Ovolo Woolloomooloo definitely outperforms The Fullerton. Much nicer rooms, friendlier staff, better value for money.
This is a stylish hotel but it's not perfect.
The building is fantastic - an old Wharf structure where cruise liners used to come in and a lot of the original features are still in place which makes for a rather strange industrial space with a huge central hall onto which all the rooms open and in the middle of which is the bar and the restaurant. There are a couple of downsides to this funky development. This central area can't be air-conditioned as it is open to at either end so when it's hot outside, even with the huge ceiling fans, it's hot inside. Also, they play loud music in the central areas until midnight, even though all of the rooms open into this atrium, which isn't helpful if you want to go to sleep beforehand. One evening I rang reception at about 11.40pm because there was no-one in the bar or restaurant and so I asked if the music could be turned off, only to be told that company policy meant it wouldn't be turned off until 12! The rooms look cool and are well appointed with a very comfortable bed and a free minibar. However, the bathrooms are badly designed with totally useless lighting making it impossible to use the bathroom mirror because it was too dark to see! The body lotion is attached to the wall directly under a hook so only someone with skinny fingers can access it, which is a shame as the toiletries are lovely. Our shower was leaking and had been mended with pink plumbers' tape! There seem to be several instances here where they are wedded to process rather than the guest. At breakfast, the unused tables were noisily cleared around us every morning at about 9.45am even though breakfast didn't' finish until 10.30. There's a very nice indoor pool and gym on the ground floor with large doors opening onto a small patio but the windows are left open all day so when it's boiling outside it's boiling in the pool and the gym and if it's cold it's freezing. We went round closing them only for the staff to reopen them as soon as they noticed. It's still a lovely hotel and every member of staff we encountered couldn't have been nicer but it wouldn't take much thought to make it a great hotel.
Couldn’t fault it from check in to check out. Room was huge and comfy. Mentioned it was our anniversary on check in, then within about 5 minutes of getting to our room, had two complimentary cocktails delivered. Excellent breakfast and happy hour was great value too. Excellent restaurants next door and easy walk to Circular Quay.
