Perfect Tropical Paradise!
From the moment we walked in to the hotel we felt like we were living the high life. We were met by a very sweet receptionist and given delicious welcome drinks on arrival. Our rooms were literally 4 steps from the pool which was great with the extreme humidity we were faced with at the time - spent so much time in the pool over the 5 nights we were there which was perfect. The rooms were so tropical and luxurious and big - and thank goodness for the aircon! Our family enjoyed the free sorbet by the pool each arvo and the free canapes in the evenings where we could mingle with some of the other guests. Was nice to have access to bikes etc too. I really felt like the staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable with all these little extras. Plus I LOVED the free cocktail making workshop they put on - the lady was even sweet enough to show me separately how to make some tasty mocktails considering I am pregnant. The continental breakfast was delicious with lots of options and everything seemed really fresh. It was a pity the restaurant only has fans as it is open and would have been good to have some aircon there with the humidity. Despite that the view was awesome and we just tried to position ourselves right under a fan when we could. My only disappointment was that the restaurant made great food but was extremely expensive. We found out that some locals can eat for half price which seems a bit unfair - I think they would have a lot more guests eat at the restaurant if they made it more affordable and not as fancy. In saying that there are plenty of great options outside of the restaurant that were nice to try and the staff were gracious enough to let us bring pizza into the resort from another place. I also liked that there were 2 separate pools - 1 adults only one, plus 2 separate spas so plenty of variety to enjoy. The adult pool is mainly deep though so would be nice if they could provide more floating devices like pool noodles. Overall I would definitely come back to this place as just being in the hotel and walking around in Palm Cove was a highlight of my trip. Highly recommend!
100% Best place on earth
Loved staying here, so relaxing, we had a beach view room, sit on the balcony and watch the day go by watch & listen to the beach... breakfast was nice, the pools are awesome, they have an honesty bar where u help yourself to what ever u want & write it on your tab they bill your room, free punch & canapés from 5om, excellent location many restaurants to choose from, great walk to the pier going back ASAP
A relaxing stay ....... but!
We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Reef House. This was our second visit in 2 years and whilst the property is in seasonably good condition some areas could do with a bit of TLC. For example many of the timber slats at the end of the Kitchen area facing the mineral pool are coming adrift and the security closures of the pool gates are quite worn and a bit loose. Our room, 231, was much smaller and not nearly as nice as the room on our first visit which was on the first floor with a beautiful fan palm sheltering the balcony. When we arrived at our room we noticed that the outside of the sliding shutters had not been cleaned for quite some time and that the balcony tiles near the outer edge were quite black in places because of inadequate drainage. The sliding baskets in the wardrobe had seen better days being rusty and worn to the extent we didn't use them and the doors on the outside refrigerator area wouldn't close properly. A word to Jackie at reception and the shutters were cleaned. I must make mention of the noisy bed; every time you got in or out it creaked and clanked and sounded like it was going to fall to bits and why a 4 poster??? On the plus side the staff were always delightful and ready to help. The food in the restaurant was very good but could have benefited by the addition of some salads on the evening menu; they were on the lunch menu but not the dinner. Would we return to the Reef House? Probably yes as it has a lovely atmosphere and is very well located
Average for a boutique hotel
We recently spent 2 nights at Reef House, booking after reading the great reviews on here. The hotel was average but not 4 or 5 star in service or facilities. Pros: - The hotel is in a good location on the Esplanade, across from the beach and easy walking distance to all the cafes and restaurants. - The boutique nature of the hotel means it’s generally quieter and better suited to those prefering a child free holiday (we didn’t see any families whilst we were there and once of the 2 pools is adults only). - There was free sorbet by the pool in the afternoon and canapes/punch in the early evening which was a nice touch (even though the punch and 1 canape were not very nice, I guess it’s the thought that counts). Cons: - We booked a Brigadier king studio room which was very cramped and pretty run down plus not overly clean. We had to walk through the restuarant to get to and from our room (including with luggage) as the path from our room to the street was overgrown. Also our “private patio” was not private as everyone walking to the mineral pool could see our room. When we raised this with the rooms manager he was unapologetic and said we could pay more for another room despite there being lots of vacant rooms available. - The hotel itself is a bit run down. Parts of it may have been refurbed at some point but other parts are still old. - Lastly, the hotel runs with very lean staff so don’t expect help with bags or anything (unless you give them notice the night before).
FIVE STAR ALL THE WAY!
Another amazing stay at the reef. Impeccable service from all staff, especially Bernard, one of the reason we returned here. Gorgeous colonial style boutique resort with numerous complimentary extras. Sorbet by the pool every afternoon, cocktails and canapés at the Brigadiers Bar every evening, pushbikes, fishing gear, games/library room, daily newspapers and more. Room is tastefully appointed with every amenity provided and a bottle of wine to welcome guests. A nice touch is the lovely oil burner providing an aromatic welcome. The staff makes this resort, from the GM Wayne, Bernard, Kerry, Becca, Annabelle and everyone else whose names I can’t remember. A place can only be as good as the staff and you are all AMAZING!!! Thank you all again.
