We cannot keep ourselves away from tgis beautiful bit of paradise in fnq. We love to come and stay every 2 years ...we only get the opportunity to stay 2 nights but would stay longer if time allowed. Dinner is exceptional. Love this place.
Nice, peaceful and exclusive
We spent three days at this amazing lodge during our Christmas holidays and you feel the exclusivity since you arrive. One person Takes care oí you for the check in while they serve drinks. They explain carefully the map of the place and all the available services. The rooms are beautiful and calm. All your pick up tours and road trips are double checked. You can swim in the river that passes by the hotel. This is one of the nicest things if you are a swimmer. You also have a tenis court in the middle of the Jungle and a small gym. There are also walking trails through the jungle. The dinner is good although if you are traveling with teen agers they might not enjoy it very much. Breakfast is really good and combined with having it with the views at the terrace it feels absolutely great! Definitely a recommended place to stay. Enjoy!
Amazing Lodge and Incredible Staff
We stayed at this beautiful lodge over Christmas and our experience could not have felt anymore special. Firstly I’d like to mention the staff who are incredibly friendly, helpful and go above and beyond to ensure your trip is memorable. My boyfriend proposed during our stay and had organised with the lodge a lovely picnic and self guided walk along the river - a must if you visit! (The walk not the proposal 😂) We were lucky enough to see the rare platypus, goannas and wallabies on our walk which made it extra special. On Christmas Eve we had little presents to open in our room- such a lovely touch! This is honestly one of the best, if not the best place I have ever stayed - thank you so much to everyone who made it so special. Kirsty and Sam
If I could give it 6 stars I would
This is a fabulous place to experience the Australian rainforest from. We stayed for 4 nights - having booked the 3 night Rainforest and Reef package plus an extra night and I would recommend having the extra free day if you do want to do the excursions as the resort is beautiful and it is worth spending some time there. Lovely pool and the short hike to Wave Rock to swim in the river is a must-do. The staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. From the communications I had in advance to arrange our day trips (they responded straight away and nothing was too much trouble) to the exceptional service from the front desk, bar staff and restaurant team, they were fantastic! The room was great - no TV (which we liked) but a hammock on the balcony that I didn’t ever want to get out of. The wildlife was everywhere - we had a wallaby and a possum just wandering around by our lodge. The food was lovely - my 11 year old discovered quail and kangeroo and gave both the thumbs up. We enjoyed the rainforest tour and barrier reef trips. I also had a lovely massage in the spa.
Beautiful Setting Unattractive Staff Attitude since change of Ownership
We have stayed at Silky Oaks several times in the last 8 years and prior to that been welcomed for lunch and afternoon tea when not staying there. Paul and Barbara owners from 2009 to 2019 were incredible hands on owners. They were genuinely warm and welcoming and that is how they trained their staff. Down to earth and genuine. The owners and staff prior to that were also great. Since the current change of ownership most staff have left and there is a militant and inflexible attitude and manner barely disguised under a fixed smile and learned spiel. You can now have afternoon tea at a hefty $18 a head for less than tasty cake and coffee. You are viewed as second class citizen if you are not staying there. Gone is the warmth and genuine welcome. There is an air of passive aggression in attitude and if you come in to perhaps have a coffee you get followed about and pressured to order. One staff member on her last day said to us she was leaving because of all of the above. Big renovations mean nothing if you have lost the human touch. Disappointing and such a bad ambiance now. The previous owners had it right.
