Great Rainforest Resort
Silky Oaks is a beautiful rainforest resort. The grounds are stunning and we loved all of the hiking right from the lodge. We loved hanging in the lobby and playing the games they have out for guests. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. All of the meals were excellent and the spa was fabulous.
Give yourself a treat, skip it!
The accommodations were quite nice and very clean...no problem there! The issue was with the main dining room. If you wanted bar food you could be served in an air conditioned room, however, if you wanted dinner from their regular menu there was no choice but to dine on an open air porch. The humidity and heat, even with fans, were horrible. Speaking of horrible, fire the chef. The food was odd...flavors mixed in a never before seen manner. Not good. Save your money...go elsewhere.
This review will be obsolete in a couple of weeks. The site will be closed for 6 months for major refurbishment. Was this necessary? Well, yes, the facility was starting to show its age. Nothing bad, but slightly tired. The guest rooms were a bit dated. However, the staff was extremely helpful and the service was topnotch. The food was above average. The grounds are amazing. Walks into the rainforest were adjacent to the facility. So, once it's redone I am sure it will be spectacular.
Arrived in torrential rain (very atmospheric!). The rooms are exquisite but no TV, only wifi. At first you panic about no TV, but actually we didn't miss it at all. We did the rain forest walk with Erin, who was fantastic and really informative about the flora and fauna. Sadly it was too wet for us to swim or kayak in the river but we enjoyed the pool. The restaurant and bar areas are gorgeous. Breakfast was ok; Arthur the waiter was particularly attentive but we found the dinner menu just too fussy and the bar menu was very limited if you just wanted a casual meal. One morning there was no water in the room (ironic considering it was raining non stop) but Sonia the GM was very hands-on and sorted things out quickly. The turn down service in the evenings was a nice touch. Facilities include a laundry which was essential to dry off each evening. Our second time at Silky Oaks, loved it then, still love it now. Good luck with the renovations. Until next time!
This is a must stay if you are in this area. Beautiful tropical location. Rooms are individual cottages. Excellent service. Food very good. Stayed 3 days, wish it could have been longer. Excellent SPA also.
