What a delight!!!
It’s so cliche but very difficult to find a fault. Beautiful facilities, great location. The restaurant is top tier. The best part… dedicated, passionate staff who work to the maximum to ensure your stay is something special. Well done!!!!
One of our favourite hotels
We stayed at the Shangri-La The Marina Cairns for two nights (check-in on 21 October 2021 and check-out 23 October 2021). Customer service was excellent, as it was last year when we stayed at the hotel. The hotel is wonderfully maintained and the lobby is inviting. The pools are great and our godchildren had real fun swimming with us in the pools (which are of appropriate depth for all ages). We stayed in an Executive Marina View Room. The room was excellent, clean and modern. The view from our balcony was blissful. We found the step down from the shower/bath to the floor very high and I nearly slipped. We imagine older, less abled people would have difficulties getting out of the bath once they have showered or bathed. I paid for the room rate which included the Celebration Package, but the wine and chocolate never arrived (despite front-of-house stating it would come soon after we checked in). We raised the issue with front-of-house on our 2nd night and asked for a late check-out in lieu as some form of compensation. We were granted the late check-out and appreciated this but it was no substitute for the non-delivery of the Celebration Package (which I had paid for). On the morning of the day of check-out, I had a medical issue which required paramedics to be called. Hotel medical staff were wonderful. As paramedics transferred me out of our hotel room to take me to hospital, front-of-house said we would be given a late check-out until 8pm. Thank you to hotel staff involved. I am very grateful. The buffet breakfast is, in our experience, a little basic. We would prefer a wider selection of food and drinks. We were surprised that barista-made coffees were an additional charge. In our experience, such coffees have been included in the overall hotel rate for a room which includes breakfast. I found the cook who made my omelette on the last morning of our stay to be a little rude. He did not even say 'good morning' and he never smiled. He just said, 'Put your plate there' (on the counter-top, so he could put the omelette on the plate). On check-in, we paid for parking for our two nights but when we left the parking area after checking-out the boom gate would not go up and the machine required us to pay another $8.00. Despite the issues, overall, my partner and I love the Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns. We have had good service and nice rooms on our two stays there. We have already booked to the stay at the hotel next year for a holiday.
Excellent food and accommodation
Excellent room and dinner we had rib eye steak and grilled prawns, good taste and perfectly cooked medium rare. Wide choices of breakfast. Staff was friendly mainly service and front desk.. we will be back
We recently stayed at the Shangri-La in Cairns once before travelling to Fitzroy Island and once on the return from Fitzroy Island - on arrival we were greeted by Tom and also Graeme (who brought our bags to our room and showed us how to get there lol) Tom was wonderful and gave a us a late check out the following day - the room was fantastic except one of the twin beds had a piece of board under it - as I presumed the mattress had sunk - neither the less it was only one night - when we checked out I mentioned I would like the same room as I enjoyed the privacy away from the pool etc - but on return on the 14/10/21 we were given a room near the pool - it wasn't so bad really as there weren't a lot of people at the pool - this time however we had to ask for a late check out as it wasn't offered. When we got to the room I noticed the bathroom didn't have a holder on the hand rail to put soap and shampoo and conditioner on - again as it was only 1 night I felt it wasn't worth complaining - however for a company as large and world renowned as Shangri-La Hotels I would presume with it being a little bit quieter due to COVID this would be a good time to upgrade and refurbish such things - what do you think
Recently had a two night stay. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. When we arrived a staff member took our bags to our room and gave us a run down of amenities etc. Rooms lovely and spacious. Would definitely stay again.
