Lovely stay at a great location- nearly perfect!
We stayed for two nights in an ocean sea view room which did in fact have a great view! The room was impeccable which is why we chose, and continue to trust, the Shangri-La when booking accommodation. We had a spacious modern room with all above standard ammenities that come with the Shangri-La experience. The location was perfect for us-just a short walk to the wharf for our reef cruise and plenty of cafes and restaurants close by also although we chose to get room service primarily. The room service food was a bit of hit and miss unfortunately (which is not something we have experienced before with this hotel group). The charcuterie board we ordered was missing several items that were listed on the menu like the pickles, chutneys and grissinis (picture attached) and the garlic bread baguette was dry and barely buttered which was made especially disappointing by the long wait time. Conversely the backyard wagyu burgers that we had ordered the previous night were delicious, delivered quickly with food still being hot and yet the same price as the charcuterie board. Unfortunately with COVID-19 buffet breakfast in unavailable (usually a highlight of our stays with Shangri-La) we tried the Granola bowls again through room service but wouldn’t recommend-would be happier to pay more for a better quality dish. Overall we still had a great stay and would stay again in the future if we are in the area.
Excellent hotel, location and service!
Stayed in the Horizon room for 4 nights. The hotel, location and service were excellent! We had to go downstairs for breakfast but food and staff were lovely. The view from our balcony was great too. Highly recommended!
Great stay and reasonable price
Loved our stay here, great service and beautiful gardens Great coffee from ursula Even during COVID times we still really enjoyed the stay Very close to lots of excellent restaurants and bars Would come back again and soon!
Last minute top decision
Due to travel changes we needed a last minute hotel in Cairns and decided on the Shangri-La, mostly because of its location. Excellent choice! Free parking under the hotel, superfast and polite check-in and a bonus upgrade to marina view room. Plus, 2 for 1 breakfast. We thought we had struck gold! Morning coffee and evening drinkings on a balcony overlooking a stunning view! what more could you ask for? I would love to return to this hotel for another visit to Cairns. Everywhere is walkable along a beautiful boardwalk; restaurants, tour operators, cafes etc
We’ve stayed at several Shangri Las in Malaysia and Borneo and this one is not the same standard of luxury. The rooms are lovely and the hotel is clean but the pool area is a bit tired looking and the service wasn’t great. While I understand buffet breakfast isn’t available due to COVID restrictions, the a la carte menu is limited and not worth the cost. Save your money and visit a local café. We are also a family of 5. We were seated at a table for 4 and the staff didn’t bother to bring an extra chair or cutlery. We didn’t want our room cleaned on the second day so it wasn’t cleaned on the third day either. When we mentioned it to housekeeping who was still in our corridor with the trolley we were told sorry but she assumed we didn’t want it cleaned that day either and she was now finished for the day. Wouldn’t choose to stay here again if we returned to Cairns
