Port Douglas Holiday
This is our first time at Port Douglas & our stay at The Oaks Resort has been amazing, the staff are wonderful and are only to willing to help, the grounds and facilities are great and the rooms are clean and relaxing Would definitely stay here again, such a great price for a lovely resort for families, couples & singles The Oak & Vine restaurant is also amazing great staff, delicious food and reasonable prices, caters for GF which is a big plus .
Check in was friendly and quick. Loved how the air cons were on when we arrived. Surprised that there was no mini bar though but you can take drinks from the bar back to the room. Bed was super comfortable and shower pressure good. The resort was very busy, with few staff, which made drinks service very slow. Splash bar served great cocktails but extremely slow. We waited about 20 minutes to order and then about 10 minutes for drinks. We were told to try the other bar, which we did, however the wait times in line were about the same. The staff were happy in the bar whereas the lady in the swim up bar basically yelled CLOSED when I walked up at 4pm and pulled the roller door closed. The pizzas are great! I really liked the whole vibe of this resort at night. Lights in the pool, fire lanterns and music. I would revisit again and hope once COVID passes, they have more staff.
We stayed for 5 nights and of September. Great family resort, happy hour cocktails and due to the border restrictions not overly packed out. Some of the service was a bit slow due to lower staff numbers, but the pool, bar and lobby were immaculate. Had a 2bdrm apartment with the only complaint being the kitchenette which was not functional, but a minor issue. Definitely recommend.
Family friendly resort
2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10) loved our stay at Oaks Port Douglas. The place was clean and tidy, the shower was hot and the bed was comfy (soft). The pool was great as it had different areas with different depths of water for younger and older users. The restaurant catered for our gluten free meal requests with no problem and they have the nicest gluten free pizza I have ever had. We would stay here again.
Beware of ‘Upgraded Room’
We visited the hotel on the 10th September and decided to book a Garden View Apartment for 10 nights which was showing availability on booking.com On arriving to book at the hotel, I was informed that the garden view apartments were in fact, not available, despite showing online. The Garden View Apartments had no availability for the first 3 days due to a group booking we were told, and that we would have to pay for an upgraded Pool View Apartment instead for the first 3 days, and then have to move rooms to a garden view. As we had no choice but to pay for a higher rate for the first 3 days we agreed to do so and were given room 3207, a supposed upgraded pool view apartment. We addressed the issue on day 3, when we moved to a standard price Garden View apartment, our complaint unfortunately fell on deaf ears with the duty manager. Our complaint was dismissed as we were informed that we should have complained the first day as soon as we arrived (we were told when booking no other rooms were available!). The analogy we were given is that you would complain about a pizza when it arrives, not eat it then complain, that was the best excuse offered for why nothing could be done. The first staff member we spoke to was aware of the issues room 3207 has, but our complaint had to go to the Duty Manager when they were available as the Duty Manager has the power to assist/refund etc... when asking the DM if they had previously had complaints about that room, they said with certainty that they had NEVER had a complaint about that room. Contradicting the previous member of staff. We were palmed off with 2 complimentary drinks vouchers as the best they could do. The photos will show the view from both the balconies and the only way to see the pool is to peer round to the left of the balcony to catch a corner of the pool. We were due to stay at the Oaks Resort in Cairns next month, but have decided to try a different chain due to the poor level of service.
