The resort is nice but a bit tired, there was some improvements in the room and the common areas however still a long way to go. The location is great and they were able to help us with a shuttle to the centre. We were excited when we saw there was a wood fire oven in the kitchen, the pizza dough was surprisingly nice, however it was fully covered with cheap cheese. The taste of cheap fatty cheese was very overpowering. I was disappointed that there was only fried and heavy dishes on the menu. However on the other hand they were able to make some grilled fish and salad for me that I very much enjoyed. The kitchen closes at 8.30pm and the bar at 9pm COME ON!!!!!! The staff need to have some serious training on sequence of service and product knowledge, but they were friendly. Most of the wines and cocktails we had were sent back and reordered due to old and off wine. Sparkling wine was often flat. Also not enough glassware to complete basic drinks resulting in cheap plastic cups being used. We had a good time but the important question is will we be back?? I highly doubt it.
Great resort. Comfy comfy beds and pillows. Nice leafy outlook from the room. Well appointed kitchen as it was a self contained room. Food in the restaurants for both dinner and breakfast were great. Nice friendly staff. Shuttle bus service in Port Douglas accessing all resorts is a great idea. Pool and pool area nice and clean and the pool has a swim up bar. The whole resort was nice and clean and tidy.
Nice resort, in need of some TLC.
We last visited the resort 8 years ago, when it was a QT and nothing much has changed. Now, that is a good & a not so good thing. On the 'good' side this is still a good resort, the room (we had a 2 bedroom suite, one bedroom suite with an adjoining room) was a good size and well equipped. The pool area is great for families and the bar / public areas are nice. The 'not so good' is that in 8 years it doesn't seem that much has been done to the place, the rooms are a bit tired, the bed was very soft, probably from extended use. The pool area again, was tired, the deck on the island in the poll was closed for renovation in the new year, the pool bar while functional looked like it could do with some TLC. The restaurant is setup as a buffet, but due to current restrictions is operating with a minimal al a carte menu. Breakfast is a buffet server by staff. Generally, service was great and staff very helpful. The resort is a little way out of town, but there are a number of shuttle services available. Hopefully Oaks will invest in some updates/renovations to the resort by the next time we return.
Requires many improvements. Advertised as a family apartment but does not meet the needs of a family. Staff were helpful and friendly, but out of their depths due to increase in patrons and lack of staff.
A mixed bag
Poor maintenance and cleanliness of rooms. Had to change my room at check in as the original one provided was dirty and looked dull. Restaurant and bar service was very good due to committed staff. House keeping needs to improve.
