Birthday break at QT Gold Coast
Went up to Gold Coast for a much-need break and combined with a birthday. We were upgraded to a penthouse suite (actually not informed of this - we just waited about 5 minutes while the reception person acknowledged our booking but then disappeared through a door, then handed us electronic keys and told to go to 22nd floor) The rooms were very tired, with trip hazard ripped carpet joins, mouldy smell and large chips in basins, worn off brass taps and obvious wear and tear on lounge/tables etc. This was a tricky situation as we appreciated the surprise upgrade but found the standard very lacking. We would have preferred the King ocean suite we had booked. Because the first three days were rainy, the extra room was great but then the worn out vibe got to us. The large spa bath was gorgeous but then the jets and lights didn't work at tall and we asked for assistance. Someone did come and look at it apparently but we were not notified, so 2 days later we asked again at reception. We were then told someone had looked at it but could not be fixed. This was fine but would have been better to not have to chase these things up. A more senior person then gave us a voucher for dining and drinks which was appreciated. The most annoying issue for us was the lack of social distancing everywhere in the hotel and we were subject to regular disparaging looks and abuse when we informed guests that there was a two-person limit in the lifts. The sign about this was very obscure outside the lift area with a 'cute' QT sign about 'just keeping it between the 2 of us'. A black and white print and more direct sign would have been better for compliance though most of he holiday makers staying there seemed to be oblivious to any social distancing measures anyway. The reception staff were mostly helpful but the main manager at Yamagen Japanese estaurant comes across as surly, unhelpful and dismissive. Would it hurt to offer a restaurant booking for another night if one turns up without a booking (we asked about the restaurant at reception the day before and no mention or offer about needing a booking - QT Melbourne and Sydney are brilliant at this customer service) rather than just say no and walk away? However, once at Yamagen the food and wait staff were brilliant. Gym is good but not when guests bring their young kids in and try to use equipment - needs better supervision of who uses gym. We are big fans of the QT brand, however, we would not recommend QT Gold Coast as it is not the 5-star rating it purports and certainly not in the same league as other QT hotels.
What a great vibe !!!
We had a short but amazing night at QT. Loved the atmosphere and the quirkiness the hotel oozed! The service was impeccable, the room was suitable, the breakfast had everything to satisfy those taste buds and the small token to wish my hubby a happy birthday was very appreciative !!!! Will definitely visit more QT hotels around the state.
Underwhelmed from check in to check out
If you’re a regular QT guest, then lower your expectations dramatically. QT GC is the ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ of the QT Group. Dated rooms barely cleaned, substandard service and poor amenities await. Keen to dine at the infamous Japanese restaurant? Don’t expect any preference being a hotel guest. It’s not the worst by any means but do not expect the pics on google. If Perth and Melbourne have impressed, then don’t hold your breath for dated GC.
Mini break with the kids
A fantastic place to take kids - the buffet was the winner! Service is exceptional. Two out of four lifts were not working so that caused a bit of chaos on a busy holiday plus the rooms are looking a bit tired. But a fun place to getaway to and so close to surfers paradise with plenty to keep kids entertained. Great value.
We have stayed here Twice over the past 3 months & now I won't stay anywhere else in surfers . You simply cannot beat the location - right in the middle of everything. The pool, restaurants , staff , everything is just perfect. Definitely 5 star. Staff are very friendly & always willing to help. Must try the buffet at Bazaar restaurant. Thank you Brooke and your team for making our stay a memorable one.
