If you are looking for 5 Star - do not go here
From the moment we arrived on an overnight visit until we left in the morning - there is nothing I can write in a positive manner - starting with checking in and the rude dismissive woman - then going to the pool where obviously very intoxicated men and women who were hardly dressed in anything but a gstring and behaving inappropriately - our towels being removed before getting out of the pool - the cabanas in disgraceful disrepair with mound and rips and far from being Covid safe, the dirty day beds with rips - then bugs in our room and unable to move us to similar priced room - being told that we would only get a 50% refund if we left - giving us a cheap bottle of wine and a breakfast to compensate - which was not a full breakfast and the hot breakfast was all pre cooked. I doubt there has been any upgrades since this was built in 2000 - the exterior was filthy - They talk about dress standards - there are none - we would have had a cleaner and more enjoyable stay in a 3 star hotel - stay away from this place
Opulent, but tired
A lick of paint and new carpet, together with new deck chair covers would probably return this place to its original glory. Being somewhat in need of work detracts from the overall experience. Our room was very nice, although the cupboards were somewhat damaged. The bed was great. The bathroom was excellent. Good service generally - pool staff were helpful, the bar staff were great and the food in the bar and restaurant was also very good.
My husband and I got married and we drove about an hour to Versace straight from our wedding. When we got there I was in my wedding attire logging around our luggage as was my husband. None of the staff cared. We checked in, the staff not very friendly. My husband had organised roses and chocolates for the arrival and when we got there nothing was there. It was a bit disappointing. In the past when we’ve even gone somewhere for an anniversary dinner they give complimentary cake so the treatment for what you pay is not worth it. Go somewhere else especially if it’s for your honeymoon.
Dissappointed- maybe 5 star 20 years ago?
Negatives: Pool- cement surrounds crumbling, lots of floating rubbish underwater, outside building stained and mouldy in places (could do with a steam clean and new paint), most cabana sun shade covers were ripped and ragged and need mending- only 2 ladies toilets which overflowed on Sunday. Only access to and from pool was a long walk through the restaurant. Breakfast- buffet was the same everyday, limited choices. Room- Dusty, No vent in bathroom, no privacy in bathroom as doors and walls were glass, double bed was more like a king single. Bed spreads old, grey and faded. We asked for oil for burner 3 times- didn't get it. Vanitas- meals miniscule , way overpriced and bland. ( received one 10cm ravioli for my main dish and one 8 cm tart for entree ) .Fish smelled off. Spa closed , shop closed. Checkout- took 1/2 hour as we were overcharged for various items - bad end to the holiday . Positives: Staff lovely, coffee good, food service fast, gym nice and clean, overall style of hotel gorgeous but getting old and needs refreshing. Location near Marina Mirage handy.
Still my favourite place to visit
We stayed early January 2021. Having seen some of the recent reviews I was hesitant. We had a wonderful stay and the staff went out of their way to be receptive, accommodating and generous. Our room was in excellent condition. Our check in was easy. Our cabanas were great. Our degustation at Vanitas was extraordinary. The high tea was the best we’ve had at Palazzo Versace and we’ve had quite a few! The things that could do with improvement - room service was a bit cold, dinner at il Barocco was average and service at the pool bar was hit and miss depending who you got. On the up side to that the manager at the pool did ask for feedback on the staff but the staff member was stood next to me waiting for my answer so a bit awkward. We didn’t observe any of the negatives mentioned in other recent posts. We did observe some really rude guests at the pool who were treating the staff appallingly though having been told they couldn’t bring in and eat, takeaway food by the pool - same as any food hotel I’ve been to and I think it’s reasonable. The most delicious desert on arrival, fruit, and Champagne for my birthday were welcome treat-Special touches were provided throughout our visit to make our stay wonderful so thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcome!! Can’t wait to return.
