A Luxury resort and a great experience but over-priced
We booked Cape Lodge for our 10th wedding anniversary - a two night package. the only reason we cannot give it 5 is that for the price - three times good quality accommodation elsewhere - one expects the highest of standards. Their application of COVID safety is illogical and one is not supposed to check in or out in person - we forgot the arrival instructions and were nevertheless given a good welcome. Our room was recently redone and was large and pleasant with a small balcony, large bathroom and comfortable seating. The fridge had complimentary drinks, but no wine (seeing this is a winery one would expect some small bottles of their wine) . The information about this expensive stay was sparse - it mentions pre dinner drinks, but not where they would be nor if they are complimentary (which they are). No information about the TV or DVD player (in a cupboard); the TV would not show a channel guide and channels like Netflix were not complimentary. We joined the wine tasting and tour which Reception had arranged for us - Rachel the guide was excellent and this was a pleasant 45 minutes with generous tastings of two wines. The hotel grounds are very pleasant. If we were to rate the restaurant separately (not possible it seems) we would give it 5 stars. It is also expensive but we had superb gourmet meals, great service, and beautiful views over the lake. Breakfast was also beautifully cooked although some more buffet options would have been good - not much for those that did not want a cooked breakfast
Ahhh the Serenity!
We had a wonderful stay here for three nights in a Lakeside room. The property is very private and extremely serene. We did the afternoon vineyard tour with Rachel and it was fantastic. Just the right length, the wines were lovely, and Rachel was an absolute delight. Each night we had pre-dinner drinks in the lounge between 5-6pm. The hospitality of Francois was spot on and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. A highlight of each day. We also had the 5 course dinner with matched wines, which we enjoyed and a Saturday Wine Lunch which was hosted by the lovely Rachel, and was thoroughly enjoyable also. Breakfast service was lovely, and Neil always professional and attentive. The proximity to good local wineries is excellent and the property really felt like a wonderful oasis to retreat to after a day of touring. The room was comfortable and well appointed, however I did expect it to be a little more plush. I think I would have been just as happy in a lower-priced option. We did think the lack of food options was disappointing, particularly considering there are no kitchen facilities in the room. Some lighter food options available on site including perhaps some platters/small plates in the lounge during the early evening (considering the kitchen is open then anyway) would have been very welcome. As there is nowhere close by open for dinner the only option is a three or five course meal $95pp-$145pp in the property's restaurant. After a couple of days of rich food, we just wanted a simple, light meal or salad for dinner and there just wasn't any other option available to us. All in all, this property is wonderful, the staff are all incredibly friendly and professional, and we loved our time there.
Stayed here for a few days in Early December 2020. Weather was nice, not too hot considering the time of year. I was amazed how close this place is to many of the local wineries. Cape Lodge also produce a limited amount of their own fine wines, bye a bottle or two if you can. The lodge is very nicely laid out with a quiet ambiance and parking is close to rooms. The reception and staff were friendly yet unimposing and nearby if you needed something. My room was an upstairs deluxe garden view room. Nicely arranged with high ceilings and large bathroom. The French doors open onto a balcony with small table and 2 chairs which provided a pleasant outlook to the gardens. There was tea/coffee facilities, a stocked bar fridge and a selection if nibbles included in the room price. Breakfast and dinner were served at the adjacent Cape Lodge restaurant. The food and wine pairing was superb and the service exceptional. I will be staying here again when the opportunity permits, a bit longer next time though.
Best dinner in Margaret river region!!
Each dish was exquisitely constructed into art rather than food, genuine care and great skill taken in preparing each element. The staff were wonderful and so knowledgeable on the wines and paired them perfectly to our dishes. We had a beautiful evening overlooking the water and were completely satisfied at the end of our night. We recommend the five course tasting menu!
The lake view suites or rooms are not as shown .Bathroom is nice however the room is very dark and old furniture .There was nothing on balcony .We had to ask for chairs to be brought up.Not 5 star .No help with luggage and they leave the doors open when cleaning .Our room was full of bugs and flies .The rest of stay and inclusions and restaurant is nice .I think the pics they show you with nice modern light furniture is of the garden suites or maybe some simply havent been re vamped.Do not pay the full price but get a deal and is ok .
