Stayed there for one night in a tent (admitting that January is a hot month)... the campground is not well maintained, bindies everywhere, unmarked sites. Facilities are not very clean with no paper roll, doors not locking... I don’t mind rudimentary campsites but for the price they charge, it has been a very disappointing experience. The only plus is the location which is very close to Kings Canyon, which is very convenient for an early start in the NP. Restaurant and coffee shop and petrol available, but at a cost.
No its not a RESORT resort - but it is a great stay
I loved this place - yes its expensive due to isolation and the room are fairly basic (I had deluxe spa) - but it is sooooooooooo much better than stay at the big flash resort a few hours up the road. I stayed two nights. Staff are lovely room are clean and basic (with the addition of spa in picture window). Recommend two night stay so you do the walk on the second morning and then chill. Top marks for the credit due to cleaning not done every day due to covid - the credit could be used anywhere - as bar/petrol/wee shop - all can get charged back to room - so it paid for the petrol for return trip to Alice. Love the 'breakfast' ie pick your goodies from the fridge. Not sure if this is covid measure or not - but wouldn't care as simple. The toasties you could get were the best in the most basic way. This place is what it is and well worth it to see Kings Canyon in all its amazing glory. The wee yellow caravan wasn't open for the sunset viewing - but didn't change the sunset. I loved it! Not sure if the pub had a separate site - but I loved it - totally unpretentious, with amusing bar person and good pub food. Would love to see it when busy.
If only there was somewhere else to stay around here
Definitely an incorrect use of the word "resort". Maybe 30 - 40 years ago when it was built it might have been ok but it hasn't had any upgrades since then - very tired and in need of maintenance/gardening. The beds (mattresses) were the worst anywhere we have stayed, with springs digging into your back and making loud noises during the night. It was daylight robbery for the cost of the accommodation. To be fair, the room was clean and ready when we arrived with AC on. We also ate at the bar across the road (that was all that was open). The food was average/ok. It wasn't worth the drive.
So glad we made the trek out to Kings Canyon. The canyon is amazing and so is the resort. I've read some negative reviews on TripAdvisor and I couldn't disagree more. Some amenities were closed or not available because of covid but we we're given a resort credit to make up for this inconvenience. The included breakfast from the service station/local store was adequate and enjoyable seeings as the restaurant was closed during out visit. We also had friendly service from everybody we encounted at the Resort.
Beautiful and comfortable
We stayed 2 nights in a deluxe spa room which was gorgeous. The advantages of Kings Canyon Resort are: 1. The location. The region is much more scenic and beautiful than the Yulara region - ranges, gorges and some forest in lieu of a scrubby desert with a couple of big rocks in the middle. At Yulara you feel as though you are in a commercialised tourist resort, not so much here. Kings Canyon is a bit of a trek but in my view it is worth it. 2. The rooms are spacious (deluxe Spa room, that is) with a beautiful outlook. 3. The staff are friendly and helpful. 4. It is quiet (there are not many young children!). The only negatives were: 1. The Restaurant at the resort was not open, presumably due to lack of visitors or staff as a result of Covid. We ate at the nearby Dirty Dingo Bar where the food was very good and reasonably priced. 2. The air conditioner in our room started leaking and stopped cooling. The resort immediately moved us to another room of the same standard.
