Powered site camp ground
We stayed two night here on our road trip in a powered site which you drove in and found yourself once set up we noticed that the amenities block was shut and the next closest was to so it was quite a walk to use the next one and after a shower you had to walk across red dirt that was annoying the pool was small and quiet busy if it was hotter and more people staying it would be unusable there was a few camp kitchens on offer but if you got hot there was nothing to hide you from the heat as the bar and eating area had no A/C. We done the rim walk so no need to head back there.
Clean and comfortable. Probably better in warmer weather
We stayed one night on the way back from Uluru to Alice Springs because we wanted to visit Kings Canyon. I guess that the resort would be almost idyllic in warm weather but we hit a cold front at the beginning of October, the temperature was around 11˚C overnight and the split system air conditioner was placed high in our (deluxe) room with a high ceiling. We found an extra cotton blanket in the wardrobe and managed to sleep quite well but the room was not exactly cosy. You pick up breakfast from the service station shop down the road and take it back to your room. Dinner is served at the pub next to the service station. The menu was limited but our pizza was surprisingly good. The variety of beer on tap was better. We started out on foot to get our dinner but turned back and got the car when we reached a huge puddle across the road and it started raining.
Happy we opted for the lodge room!
Due to several Covid changes we ended up in Kings Canyon for one night on the way from Alice to Uluru, arriving at 5:10pm and planning to head off after doing the rim walk the next morning. Therefore we opted for the family lodge room, which at $169/four without breakfast is not cheap but a bargain compared to other options here or at Kings Creek Station. You are in a remote location and your only other options are driving 3 hours each way, probably on dark and dangerous roads to walkduring the heat. So pay the money and accept it. The beds are comfy, the sheets and rooms are clean. The lodge room had a good air conditioner, not just the air cooler noted on the website and shared bathroomS were very clean. The shared camp kitchen with a microwave, gas stove and full size fridge/ freezer is very handy and you also have a private fridge in your room. Although there is no cooking equipment, plates or cutlery in the camp kitchen, this can be hired from the petrol station for $10 but it was closed when we got there at 5:10pm. We always intended to eat at Pub which was a bit disappointing. The kids chicken schnitzels were over cooked(dry) and dark, dark brown...as was every other schnitzel that I saw. Clearly the oil was too hot! I opted for the roast vegetable and couscous salad which would have greatly benefited from warm roast vegetables and a wedge of lemon rather than just serving them cold straight from the fridge. The camp kitchen microwave vastly improved my dinner! All the KC staff I spoke to over the last six months whilst trying to book, reschedule and rebook this trip were incredibly helpful and polite and were the reception staff when we arrived after 5pm with a failed online booking made the night before. The reception staff recommended we take the Canyon Creek wLk whilst our room wS prepared and all was ready when we got back an hour later. Many thanks for making our trip happen.
Some good reasonably flat shady sites with average amenities. Quite expensive for a campsite and I considered it below average value for money. Location is good, not far from the canyon which is well worth the effort to see and walk, but carry plenty of water in the warmer weather.
Reception was good, but.........so expensive
Stayed 1 night. Lady at reception was excellent but the place is a major rip off. I know you are in the outback but no reason to hold people to ransom. Place seems a little neglected, the rooms on either side of us were left in made for the day/ night we were there. The restaurant bar had average food for expensive prices. It’s not 1 star because the staff are ok and it’s obviously close to Kings Canyon, but hey you want to sleep in a bed.......cough up!
