Still a special place
After last visiting over 10 years ago, we stayed here for an overnight and dining experience. Although it was in the mids of COVID with all the restrictions in place, we still had a great time, great service and a beautiful suite.
Escape from our Winter of Discontent
Two Public Holidays in one week! Why not make the most of both of them - especially as were unable to be where we were supposed to be - Port Douglas? (We booked our time and our flights there a year before - couldn't go, could we?) We had not been as tied down as our poor Melbourne brothers and sisters, but at our age we had still been very restricted. So we went! Lunch in Queenscliff on Wednesday - lovely! And today - Lunch at the Lake House in Daylesford! The two should not really be compared - they are both so very good at what they do. We had a wonderful lunch at the Lake House - sublime meals, superbly presented and served. My only regret was that we were not staying the night and could not explore the marvelous wine list a little further. Will we go back? Of course we will - maybe stay a little longer next time.
BIG MONEY LITTLE CHOICE
We are Daylesford Residents and eat out regularly. My wife wanted to Visit Lake House for her Birthday. Many years had passed since our last visit. A pity time dulls memory. A very expensive disappointment, No WOW Factor, little choice on the $175 a head 4 course menu. No atmosphere, yes was Covid Period. My 3 Rd plate cold and after my Wife being assured the Pork Belly was not Fatty , it certainly was . Desert was excellent, something needed to be. Certainly Sault, Beppe,Surly Goat and others are way ahead in choice , price and style.
Perfect depending on the purpose of your visit
We have been dining here intermittently over the past decade and have always considered it to be one of Australia’s best restaurants. The prices are not cheap but the attention to detail and the quality of the food and service has always merited the cost. One of the other services offered is accommodation and we decided to treat ourselves to an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast included in the tariff. The lakeside unit was comfortable, clean and well appointed. It did, however, also provide a different perspective on The Lakehouse from the impeccable approach associated with the restaurant. 1. There was an ambiguity about the mini bar that made us apprehensive about what was and wasn’t included in the room tariff. Coffee, hot chocolate and water were obvious. There were jars of tea, but tea was listed on the mini bar for $10 per jar, and we didn’t want to inadvertently commit to a $10 cup of tea. One other incongruous touch was a coffee pod machine, a bit cheap and nasty for $700 per night, not to mention disastrous from an environmental waste perspective. 2. Another contradiction in regard to environmental concerns was the amount of time the tap had to be run before it was hot enough for a shower. We calculated that the excess water costs would probably have paid for a dedicated flow through unit for each apartment and reduced water waste. 3. Reception was less than efficient in processing the payment. The receptionist put through the wrong amount initially, then amended the invoice but didn’t reverse the first transaction. A rather basic procedure in the hotel industry. If we hadn’t checked internet banking immediately on our return home it might have gone unnoticed for a while. This was especially galling when I have extensive experience in office administration and cash handling but have been refused work because of being 50+ years old and slightly arthritic. We had really looked forward to this stay, but found it lacking the complete satisfaction of previous visits. We would patronise the restaurant again but would be apprehensive about the value for money and the enjoyment of the accommodation.
Beautiful winter's lunch
Had an amazing lunch here on a beautiful winter's day. Had a 4 course menu with wines by the glass. Service was great, all the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant itself was beautiful, warm and cozy. The food was fantastic, classic and delicious. "The apple" was a bit disappointing, looked fantastic but a bit bland. Choc passionfruit dessert was amazing!!!
