Some attention to detail required.
The surroundings are fantastic and the all the excursions excellent with very friendly and knowledgable staff. The Ecolodges are extremely comfortable, spacious and a general delight. There are however, some issues. Firstly their marker on Google maps is nowhere near the station. Leaving the town it will tell you’ve arrived when you’re more than 30 km short. Finding the place is challenging because there is NO phone signal and very few people around to ask. We drove an extra 60 km back and forth trying to find it at the end of a very long drive. The internet is a joke. Basically there is none. You can buy 500MB, but 90% of the time you’ll have no connectivity at all. This needs addressing in 2020. Although the ecolodges have kitchen facilities there is no fresh food at all at the local (caravan site) shop. The situation is no better in the nearby town if local staff are to be believed. Unfortunately, this means the only eating option is the rather mediocre Woolshed restaurant. Also bear in mind that at some times and some places the flies make outdoor activities near-intolerable.
Fabulous villas in an amazing location
Where to start? The staff were fantastic from the minute we arrived. They welcomed us, guided us and helped out when we needed it. The location is amazing - a working sheep station in true outback with views in every direction. Local wildlife too. The villas were extremely comfortable with good views to the hills. Situated halfway between the reception and restaurant and the shop/campground. Easy if somewhat dusty walking distance. Only minor issues were the internet which could be challenging but I bought extra data for an online job interview which worked well. The buffet breakfast was slightly underwhelming although having fresh eggs was good. Some ordinary coffee would have been good too. For a true outback experience with a bit of luxury this is the ideal spot
Great for a large group
Stayed in the bunk house, great for large groups.we usually stay in the caravan park but the bunkhouse was a good choice this time. Very private and quiet down by the creek, and because it away from the lights the stargazing was fabulous
Reconsider Staying Here If You Want Good Facilities
Wifi bad...500MG free... we think we only got about 30!!! Have to buy more... not acceptable in this day!we didn’t buy more... Reception guy told us shop sparse and even Wilpena shop sparse... Wilpena Pound IGA excellent we think he was up selling the restaurant. We self catered... restaurant VERY expensive!! Kitchen sparse and not too clean Double bed tiny Pillows uncomfortable Views from units nice No Telstra!!!!
Best campsite views you will ever stay at over looking Wilpena Pound on sunset. The crew so friendly & helpful with well stocked shop. The Sheepyard restaurant was a culinary delight with the most delicious lamb.
