Excellent hotel and personable service in a great location
We arrived late at the hotel as we were on the last ferry. The manager Ian was most welcoming and his introduction to the Mercure and our room was incredible, thank you Ian The restaurant experience was so good, we had breakfast included and booked the evening meals for the excellent menu choices on offer daily. Restaurant evening service was run by the dynamic duo Ian and Fiona that aced every service during our 5 night stay 👍🏻 Our Room was clean and tidy and towels changed daily a little dated but nevertheless clean and spacious. Excellent midway point for all of the islands main attractions
Such an excellent place to stay!
We arrived at Kangaroo Lodge for a 3-day stay and were there for 11 days. Ian and Sue (2) could not have done more to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Our spacious unit overlooked the water providing a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere. We enjoyed the many bush walks near the water and the historical sites along the way. The wildlife round the Lodge is an extra bonus. The award winning restaurant lived up to its reputation - our compliments to the Chef and to Fiona. We can not give enough praise to Ian and Sue who made our stay so memorable, comfortable and relaxing. Thank you. Ian and Tess.
Lovely Surprise Accomodation
I stayed at this accommodation recently, and found a very pleasant surprise! All staff i met were very friendly & helpful. From Front of House to Restaurant and Breakfast staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The meals were stunning and everything I tried was delicious. Must say i was impressed by the limen is the rooms, the towels were the fluffiest I have ever seen!
A real mix of good and not so good
We only stayed here out of necessity as something went wrong with another booking we had for a beach house, and I have to say we would probably only choose to stay again if it was really necessary. Essentially, the place is v v v dated and has nothing specific that makes it enticing or attractive. It is just a place to lay your head - but if that’s all you want, then it’s fine. We just like to ‘feel’ some point of difference in the places we stay. For that reason we chose the rammed earth water view room and thank goodness we did as it would have been an extremely drab stay otherwise. The furnishings in there are completely soulless. The bad: The sliding door onto the balcony was open on arrival. We thought that was just a ‘welcoming touch’. We learned it was to mask the smell coming from the bathroom. It was, quite frankly, just awful. There is obviously insufficient ventilation. There is an overpowering seaweed smell that builds up so, needless to say, we tried to keep the door open as much as we could. The door to the bathroom did not close without huge force and noice. That is an issue in the middle of the night!!! The bathroom is just dated. The shower head has no pressure. The coffee pods were not replaced at the service. It makes you feel embarrassed to go asking for more given the price paid!! Equally, if you want your room serviced, you have to ask for that too. The covid reason is no longer valid. It’s a staple requirement of a hotel room to have your bed made and towels changed. It should be the reverse - if you DO NOT want your room serviced you should opt out. At least the fellow who checked us in did indeed register our request for servicing and so it did occur the next morning and very thoroughly. The good: We appreciated having the little kitchenette. More hotel rooms could benefit from providing just very basic knives, forks, spoons, plates, glasses etc like this. The room, smell aside, was extremely clean and tidy and the room we had was large enough to be able to sprawl out. We also very much enjoyed our dinner in Reflections. The whiting, although a very small portion (and we do appreciate the current high price) was done just perfectly and was so juicy and sweet - and the side dish of greens was a bowl of buttery bliss! The honey tiramisu dessert was gorgeous on the eye and the tummy! The three stars given here is mostly due to the restaurant really. As to the wine service - hmmmmm. The bottle was delivered to the table, opened, and just dumped on the table in a cooler and not served into our glasses. Why not? Weird. We did love that their wine list was (I think) 100%, or if not 95%, KI wine. Excellent. The location is the hotel’s main advantage other than its restaurant. Being on a ‘main’ road we thought ‘oh oh’ for noise, but it’s wasn’t an issue and the view, even if over a road, is very pleasant. Morning walks around the area are a treat. No glossy black cockatoos though :( The staff are so nice but great people do not mean the place just = 4 stars. The property itself must match the service and an upgrade would help that for sure.
We were a group of 7 staying in 3 x rooms. The rooms were spacious with bathrooms and tea & coffee making facilities. The bed were comfortable and the rooms were all clean. We arrived late at night and were greeted by lovely receptionist Sue who made it very easy to check in. I would suggest that you look for an alternative to the Restaurant for dinner, it was very disappointing. All our rooms had lovely views of the river which was just across the road.
