Above and Beyond
My friends and I left our bags for safe keeping with Hotel Xelena when we crossed into Chile to do some hiking in Torres Del Paine during a several week trip in Argentina and Chile. We intended to return to the hotel and El Calafate for a stay on our way back through to Buenos Aires and eventually home. But covid and the pandemic had other plans and while hiking without cell service in Chile for several days, the borders closed around us. We were unable to cross back into Argentina to retrieve our belongings. After 6 long months, the staff not only communicated regularly on the status of our belongings being safe, but today were able to arrange for our items to be shipped home to us in the United States. Talk about going above and beyond for their customers! We haven't received our bags yet but just knowing it's going to be soon is such a relief! Also, great location, restaurant on site, and laundry services if ya need it ;)
Nice facilities; far from everything
The facilities are comfortable, the rooms a little bit half-harted. And all the main restaurants are far away from the main centre of El Calafate. At night you need to ask a cab or drive your car because is windy and cold (even in summer). We had a room with a lake view, very beautiful. Breakfast was very complete and tasty. With gluten free options. The staff was unfriendly. Very expensive hotel
Great hotel and location
The hotel is only a short walk away from the Main Street and is well located with great views of the lake. Rooms were well appointed and service first class. The breakfast was outstanding and staff friendly
Definitely a 2 star hotel;nothing about it was the 5 stars we paid for The staff was very unfriendly;specially in the breakfast buffet;the pillows are very lumpy and the mattresses very hard, and they’re still using blankets instead if duvets ;very old fashioned The only good thing about this hotel is the lake view
Xelena Hotel hits the spot
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Xelena. Our room was sizeable, bright and clean. The bed was comfy and the shower was nice. It was a great place to return to after a long day on the glacier, and we enjoyed the meal at the bar. The pool and jacuzzi were definitely the highlight - the sunset from the jacuzzi was sublime! The bad? Our room was right above the lobby and it at times felt like we were sleeping right in the lobby. We’d recommend specifically requesting a room far away from the lobby for a much more pleasant stay.
