Newer hotel near the falls located in the jungle. Beautiful property and amenities. The superior room was well appointed with a great shower and a spectacular view of the jungle from your balcony. The staff in the front desk area were amazing. The airline lost our luggage and the front desk staff took comeplete ownership of the issue and were relentless in securing delivery of the luggage. The only disappoint was the breakfast staff as they were hard to find and slow to respond. The items on the buffet were slow to refresh. Overall a great stay.
Great stay at a lovely hotel
The Mercure is a good quality modern style hotel with lots to offer. Big rooms, even at the basic level and you really feel like you are in the jungle. Friendly and helpful staff and a good quality restaurant. We had dinner one night and was very happy with the local offer of food. In town you could be waiting a long time to get a table and be served. It’s a bit out of town, however the cabs are really cheap and it’s in the way to the falls. There is a lovely pool outside with a bar which is great for relaxing and sunbathing before it gets too hot. The reception staff were really helpful, although they ran out of maps, and it was at the start of the season. The only things I would say could do with improving is a sign from the main road. The hotel is down a dirt track which isn’t initially easy to locate. It took us three goes to find it and our satnav didn’t have the road at all. Also the gym could with with an update. At least more and matching dumbbells.
Hotel in the forest
If you are visiting the Iguazú Falls this is a great choice of hotel. Don’t let the fact that it’s not in the centre put you off. If you are not hiring a car or want to go into the centre where you will find most of the restaurants, the taxis are very cheap and lots of the around. If you are hiring a car, you may miss the turning from the main road as it’s not well signposted. (From the airport it’s the turning after the Marcopolo Suites and continue on that road). As it’s in the middle of the forest, it’s a lovely quiet area. The hotel reception staff are helpful and knowledgeable about travelling around. It’s has a nice bar area and restaurant. The pool is a great addition and much needed if visiting in the summer months. The gym is not note worthy due to the lack of equipment. The rooms - both standard and the junior suite are similar in size. The standard room I had was clean, comfortable and had a small balcony with seats. Overall, an enjoyable stay!
The lack of service is total
I wish this was a good review - the pool is great, it’s clean and it’s pretty modern but the service... One of the biggest problems is that there’s only two persons whom knows any English at all, the knowledge of the rest of the staff is almost none. For example; we want the reception to call a restaurant and make a reservation for us. When she hangs up she says that there isn’t a need for reservation at the restaurant. When we get there, they only accept guest with a reservation. My daughter asks what fruit drinks they have in the pool bar, the bartender says; yes, one fruit drink” and gives her whatever even if they have different flavours. Room service knocks on our door with food, we haven’t order anything - the person who took the order misunderstood the person calling. We order two massages for a specific time. When we get there, there’s only one masseuse there. The list can be made long. It’s ok that not everyone in the world speaks English but at a hotel. In that case, that gave to inform that they only speaks Spanish on their Webb. Mercure is a big chain, maybe they can educate all new employees? Secondly; the food. Even when we were alone in the restaurant it took 45 minutes to get the food and they use no spice at all, not even salt. Everything is tasteless. The breakfast is also totally tasteless and there is only sugabased food. Except for white toast there is no bread, they have a minimum of fruit presented and there are no natural yoghurt. For those who wants to live a healthy life, the breakfast is hard to get enough food.
Terrible experience for the budget savvy traveller
After booking this hotel 5 months ago through the Accor website with an Advanced Saver special and prepaying so I could budget my family travel with 4 children, I arrived only to be told I had to pay as they had no record of my payment. Unless I produced my personal bank statements directly to them, I had to pay again. I showed them confirmation from Accor saying payment had been made. They told me that due to Argentina laws you can’t make a pre-payment because they need to see your passport. I had successfully prepaid for 2 other hotels in Argentina. If your a budget conscious traveller like me do not book this hotel. I had also booked for my room to have 3 beds (1x king + sofa) but was told that there was no mention of a 3rd person in each room and was asked to pay for an additional roll away bed. Very disappointed. Lots of other good hotels around.
