Working estancia in the heartland of the gaucho
Experience life on a traditional Argentine estancia in the gaucho heartland at the late colonial era ranch of Estancia el Ombu de Areco. The charming El Ombu de Areco boasts a wide variety of flora and fauna and offers fantastic opportunities to observe or take part in the daily running of the ranch.
We offer a two night gaucho experience during which you can immerse yourself in estancia life. Experience gaucho traditions, observe or even take part in the day-to-day running of the ranch and enjoy the fresh air and unique ambience which pervades through the 750-acre estate.
During your stay choose to be involved as much as you please. Stock-rearing activities include milking, branding, ear-tagging and driving cattle. Explore at your own pace on foot along the banks of the Areco River or saddle up and join an experienced gaucho as you ride one of the working horses across the land.
Those who wish to travel in a more leisurely style can take a horse-drawn carriage ride and bird lovers can keep an eye out for the many bird species of the pampas. The property also features a variety of facilities and activities that can be enjoyed at leisure including a swimming pool, bicycles, volleyball, table tennis and football. During your stay be sure not to miss a traditional asado during which you can sample succulent barbecued beef which has been raised and prepared on the estancia.
On the outskirts of the town of San Antonio de Areco the ranch is set in a ten acre park just an hour and a half outside of Buenos Aires
