Serene location. Problems with Villa and Experience availability
Pros: Oryx and Gazelles line the roads surrounding the villas. Beautiful mature trees and birds everywhere. Peaceful and serene environment. King at Moon Bar was an excellent bartender. Gabrielle at the Nature Center was the guide for oir nature walk and instructor for archery. He made our trip so much fun! He was overwhelmingly knowledgeable about the animals and archery and our children learned so much from him and we all had an amazing time! Cons: Food was ok. Not very flavourful, basic. The villa we were in was beautiful but was very noisy and sleep was unattainable. A loud dripping sound was present and although we reported the issue, we couldn't change rooms until the next day so the first night we paid a great deal for was wasted as we were so annoyed. This was upsetting as we were looking forward to the hotel based on the reviews but were disappointed for half of our trip as time was spent calling and trying to get someone to help us resolve this issue. Overall the experiences are nice but make sure you thoroughly check your villa before getting settled to avoid the problem we incurred.
Had a fabulous 4 night stay in March at Ritz Carlton Al Wadi (RAK). We were unsure whether to book the beach resort or the desert resort, however wanted something different, so went for the desert resort and very glad we did! Check in Check in was quite quick and smooth (think with Mohamed) and we were taken to our room via buggy driven by Shiva. We chose to have our meals/drinks charged to the room. Room Special thank you to Vikas and Prabin who cleaned our villa daily! We had an Al Sahari secluded tented pool villa (407 or 4107 (apologies can’t remember)) which was in a great area and not overlooked - very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Proportions of the room was very generous - most probably one of the largest suites we’ve had. Electronic blinds were a good feature with access to our private pool from numerous doors within the villa i.e. from the bedroom and bathroom. The decking area around the pool was also very generous in size and provided a table/chairs to sit/eat on, 2 outdoor sofas and a coffee table plus 2 sun loungers. Towels were plentiful for both the pool area and bathroom/shower. Bottles of water were replenished daily. Room was cleaned every morning/early afternoon along with an evening turn-down service. We also had the use of 2 bikes to explore the surrounding areas. Wildlife We saw Camels, the Arabian Oryx, Goitered/Mountain Gazelle and Blackbuck daily. The Arabian Oryx is not shy and wandered up to our pool to have a closer look at us! The Gazelle and Blackbuck were more timid and stayed quite far from us. It was really incredible seeing the animals in their natural habitat enjoying life and we took a few photos to show friends and family. Moorish - mediocre We ate at the Turkish/Middle Eastern restaurant on our first night and although it was a good deal - AED250 per couple for a set meal (cold starters, soup, mains and dessert), the food (with exception of the mixed grill), was quite bland/under seasoned. The cocktails (ordered by my husband) were not particularly great, so I stuck with the wine. The service was very good and quick, but it was quite quiet. Alcohol was priced very reasonably along with food. Farmhouse - excellent! Special shout out to Rae who served us on both nights we visited. We ordered mainly steaks (ribeyes and tenderloin) and they were cooked very well, generous portions and super filling. Beware of the habanero spiced bbq sauce - very hot! Food, cocktails and bottles of wines well priced and cocktails fabulous - I very much enjoyed the smokehouse negroni!! On our last night we arrived around 6pm and had drinks on their outside area, watching the sunset and wildlife drinking from the lake. Kaheela - breakfast - very very good! Had fabulous service from Sushmita, Aku, Amandeep and Gina. Breakfast was a glorious affair - fresh juices and an abundance of choices. Everything was cooked well and served very nicely. Service was quick, attentive and couldn’t really fault anything. Portions are quite healthy, so we were conscious to order carefully to avoid waste. Everything was brought to our table, which we preferred and resulted in a very civilised breakfast. When you sit inside (which was our preference), you can see their garden which has a number of herbs and vegetables planted. It’s also a relaxing spot for a black cat who enjoyed chasing the birds! Room service We ordered dinner/room service one night and food was very good including ceaser salad and burgers. Activities As this was a break intended for relaxation purposes, we only did 2 activities Falcon Show - free to all guests - was very interactive and there were multiple opportunities to get up and close with various birds. The trainer was very knowledgeable with a good sense of humour and allowed time for photos to be taken. Night Walk - approx AED 300 - special shout out to Ernest who took us on our Night Walk! I don’t think my husband quite knew what the Night Walk entailed, however, equipped with flashlights and UV lights, Ernest kept us safe from venomous snakes and other critters! We saw some interesting nocturnal wildlife and learned a lot about the animals, reptiles, birds, insects and plants/trees that call the nature reserve that the Resort is built on home. Check out: We arranged a time for the buggy to collect us to take us to Reception to check out. There was a slight wait of approx 5-10 mins, however checkout was relatively smooth. Our Bill was incorrect as we noted some tips had not been included for breakfast staff, which we advised of and it was added/rectified. Useful information: We prefer to tip in cash, however had brought limited cash in AED100/200 notes with us, expecting an ATM on site. Unfortunately there is no ATM, so tried to break larger notes up into AED 10/20 bills at Reception, which we were told was not possible. We ended up breaking up some larger notes at the restaurants instead and was able to tip cleaning and restaurant staff in cash. When our cash ran out, we added tips to our bill to be taken from our card on checkout. We walked most days to and from breakfast which was nice and took approx 5 mins each way, so there was no need to call a buggy service each time. We didn’t make it to the main pool, however as we had our own private pool, wasn’t desperate to see/use it. We had 1 tiny gecko in our toilet area, which didn’t pose a problem to us. We could have called Reception to have something take it out, but we were not phased and expect some instances like this when we are in the desert/nature reservation. We also noticed a few ants around the sink on our first day, but were provided with PifPaf in the room to zap them and didn’t notice anymore throughout our duration. 4 nights was enough for us to unwind and relax - we don’t think we would stay much longer due to the limited number of restaurants available. Although we were advised the hotel was at their capacity (max 70%), it never felt busy, overcrowded or rushed. There were large families with children but again, didn’t feel noisy or loud - very calming place. Conclusion A beautiful, relaxing stay and well worth the money. We would definitely come back again and incorporate a hike of the Jebel Jais/Hajar Mountains (as suggested by Gina). It was warm in March and there were 2 days where it was very hot, so not sure how we would survive during the summer months, but we would most probably come back in the winter/Nov-Feb. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Better than fabulous!
We visited with four kids between ages of 9-1 yr old. This hotel is beyong amazing. They have so many activities to do on site. The layout of the property is just too good. The desert, the buggies and cycles on hand to take you everywhere at a moments notice, the amazing amazing staff and the camels, horses etc provide so much entertainment that we cant wait to come back. I have been to most of the best resorts in uae, but this was by far one of the most exclusIve in terms of price and services. Food was excellent. Very thankful to the skilled men at the stables for providing such a warm and pleasant experience with the horses and ponies. The pool in the villa was a great size for us all to enjoy, temperature controlled and very well maintained. Highly highly recommend staying here for a min 2 days to enjoy all the onsite activities
Perfect romantic get away in the desert
My husband and I went for a Easter getaway witho the kids and had a wonderful stay in one of the Al Kaimah villas. Perfect set up for a couple, quiet, relaxing, we spent most of our time watching grazing oryx from the private pool. As always with Ritz Carlton, the facilities are great and service immaculate - we had a brilliant time learning archery with Wilson and the most spectacular starlit dinner at the Oasis dining (waited on by Abdulaziz and cooked for us by Sunil, absolutely perfect).
Really spacious resort, more to do than expected amplified by caring service
The guest experience team listened to our pre-arrival feedback (shared by email in advance as a result of our precious stay at their sister hotel on the beach in RAK and went out of their way to make sure our concerns were addressed. (Won't mention here as they actually made sure our previous issue simply did not occur again). The breakfast team also went out of their way to help in whatever they could for a crying child. Really thoughtful and considerate team. Thank you. Villas are truly spacious and well designed and I was pleasantly surprised by all that there is available to do within the resort. The only average experience was for the pony riding and camel riding which felt more of a routine job by the people helping which was still great for us, but lacked the same enthusiasm that we felt from everyone else. Top tip - allow time for the golf carts to reach you or better yet - use the cycles they provide to get around the resort.
