Let me start off by saying something good. The views at this resort are amazing. The water is crystal clear. But when it comes to the resort, I hope nobody else spends their money here when there's so many other places to visit with such better service. I've been to multiple all inclusive resorts and this has been by far the worst experience I've had. I'm not saying all the employees are disgruntled. But there are definitely a good portion of them that could care less about their job and the customer service they provide. Food takes literally hours to prepare. The buffet is closed half the time. Bars close early. The food itself is not very good. This is the only all-inclusive I've ever stayed at that doesn't cater to night owls. If you plan on staying up late and having a good time with friends or family definitely do not come here. We got kicked out of the only open bar last night at 1 a.m. and had nothing left to do. Definitely do not upgrade to the Diamond club. It will cost you an arm and a leg for self service mid grade alcohol. That's all.
Amazing views, beach, accommodation. Restaurants seating system needs changing, Pool games and music need changing. Lots of space away from beach/pool that could be used for games and music. The wonderful staff need direction and training to give them confidence.
Royalton in name only
We visited this hotel in November for both mine and my husbands 50th birthdays. I have delayed writing this review as I have been very unwell since visiting. I contracted a stomach bug whilst at the hotel and have had to undergo hospital investigation and treatment since my return. This was the 3rd Royalton we have visited and will be our last. Aesthetically, this hotel is beautiful and situated upon an amazing beach. Unfortunately, the rest does not live up to the Royalton brand. After discussions with the manager, it became evident that this Royalton has been targeted to cut costs. In the manager’s words he was standardising the hotel with a gesture of lowering his hands. He also stated that all inclusive in Spain is buffet. We do not pay to visit a hotel with just a buffet we book all inclusive gourmet al a carte and that is what we expect to receive. The food options were cut every day we were there. Never were the Italian AND the Caribbean restaurants open on the same day. Scores were stopped serving food Monday - Friday. Lobster was removed from the Caribbean menu. Room service took so long you just gave up. It was very obvious that management would prefer you to eat in the buffet. The buffet was mediocre at best. Lunch was “fast food” which is fine if you are staying in a 3* hotel. The only restaurant which was worthy of a Royalton restaurant was Hunters and even then we sometimes waited 1.5 hrs for a starter and main. Opening the Italian restaurant at lunch time was a plus. Until, you realised it was just somewhere different to sit with exactly the same menu as the very limited one already on offer. What on earth is the point in that! Staff appear unhappy, not unhelpful, but unhappy in their work. Our room was very often not serviced so we had to go hunting for towels. The floor was never once cleaned in the 2 weeks we were there. The fridge was stocked regularly though! Diamond club is not worth the money here. The beach servers would maybe offer to fetch you a drink once a day if you were lucky. You could make restaurant reservations and that is about the only plus. Antigua is a beautiful island and we will go back one day but certainly not to the Royalton.
Worst Service Ever
I hope this review helps. The beach was excellent, Wonderful blue water, nice clean sand beach. The water sports, excellent, paddle boarding, kayaking, catamaran, all great. If you are coming here for good customer service though, forget it. I do not expect great service at a hotel like this, but I do expect good service. Good luck getting a good drink at this all inclusive, the bartenders are poorly trained, they didn’t even have limes. DIAMOND CLUB SERVICE IS A JOKE. We were supposed to get a special kind of service, the service actually got worse. I really don’t need excellent service either, we were supposed to get a butler, never met them. (No big deal) supposed to get our room stocked with premium alcohol, they stocked our mini fridge with Caribe Lager. That’s It. Very bad management, It seemed as if the employees ran the hotel and thought no matter how bad they treat the guests they could stay open. It seems like nobody has ever worked in customer service here at all. The staff will look at the guests like their worst enemies. The staff even fight with each other, showing a lack of management and teamwork. They do not care if the guests have a good time or not. My opinion, this hotel is way overstaffed with under-qualified people, not managed at all, no company process is in place to ensure things are stocked or ordered. Personal experience- our group was up late and wanted to grab some food and sing karaoke at the sports bar. We were told to go to The Sports Bar for food and drinks that night. It was a Sunday night and they close the Sports Bar at 2am, we showed up at 1am. They had closed the bar and kitchen and tuned off the karaoke machine as soon as we walked in. Too many bad stories to list...
I will just start by saying we are leaving today and enjoyed our stay because we set our expectations low. We are seasoned travelers been to most carribean islands as well as our fair share of travel around the world. This is by no means a five star hotel no comparison to one of the palace properties or beaches, both chains we visited in different islands. It doesn’t even come close to quality of food or entertainment That is however not the reason why we choose this property. We came for a beautiful beach and it didn’t disappoint One of the most beautiful calm beaches in the carribean, only grace bay compares to it. Beautiful blue colors, clear and calm GOD’s perfection. The resort itself is small but clean We opted for diamond club and although I never even saw my butler!!!! I am glad I did. We have a beautiful room and had special area on beach with nicer lounges and shades Also I had no problem getting restaurant reservations and could see every night the non-diamond club guests fighting with servers because they were waiting for hours and not seated yet and some were told realistically they will not be seated!!! Because my butler never shows up “ we called him our invisible butler” I stopped by diamond club lounge every morning and made my own dinner reservations So if you are expecting a 5 star resort with butler service like you get in beaches resorts you will be disappointed, if you are coming to relax and enjoy a beautiful beach in a clean resort with ok food you will have a great time. Special shout out to Melissa in diamond club who helped me with my reservations everyday and Dave and Di in entertainment who accompanied us in our hike to fort barrington. Lots of great servers trying to do their job, even those that didn’t smile once you were nice to them and smiled they smiled right back, kindness goes a long way with these servers I believe more than your tips.
