The lodge is in a very beautiful setting on a peninsula. We arrived on a wet and windy day so the boat ride from Maputo was quite an experience! The rooms are clean and of a high standard, including tea and coffee making facilities. The only problem we had was the noise level at night when it was very windy. Service is of a high standard and staff are very helpful and flexible. The snorkeling was great despite the fact that I was a beginner - when I found it difficult, the guide led me to a calmer area and made sure that I enjoyed the experience too. I wore a wet suit as the water is quite cold. The Inhaca island tour was very interesting and I also enjoyed a treatment at the spa. The standard of food was very good too.
Beautiful, relaxing beach perfection
The perfect place to relax on the Indian Ocean! Beautiful surroundings, gorgeous rooms and communal areas, and incredible food. The staff went out of the way to make sure we had a great time, including taking us back out on a second whale watching trip after they were elusive the first time!
Blown away by the peace and beauty
This is one of the most unique and beautiful places I have every stayed in. This is not a hotel which posts notices or provides written information. Everything is verbal and you are advised to join the hotel WhatsApp group on arrival as this is how you will find out what the next day activities will be. We had an all inclusive package which included items such as most drinks, minibar and selected activities and it was very convenient. The room overlooked the ocean and was lovely. Jacques the manager is hands on. All food including eg potato crisps and bread rolls are made on site. Food was all delicious. We loved everything. Special mention to Jacques's Gin Tasting lesson, the sunset wooden dhow trip, the magic of the dunes walk and the wild, pounding sea on the walk to the shipwreck. The snorkel beach picnic was pure magic, even for nervous swimmers like us and the only time we swam in the sea as the water was shallow and clear out on the reserve. Some activities may concern people who are used to European safety standards eg the rough sea trip to spot whales on a very bouncy small boat and the need to climb in and out of boats without ladders or a jetty so this needs to be expected. We walked for hours, paddled in the sea (warily, due to currents and surf) and explored the mysterious animal tracks in the dunes at sunset. There were fish eagles, flamingos on the reserve, various wader birds and plenty of other wildlife in and around the lodge. This is not a place for people who like to lie around a swimming pool as the one here is small and not very inviting. This is a place to walk, snorkel, kayak, swim if you are confident but otherwise soak up the barefoot no news no shoes luxury provided. I did not want to leave ! A big thank you to Jacques and all the MBL team for a fabulous 5 days.
Beautiful, Restful and Relaxing
If you want a beautiful, restful and relaxing beach lodge then Machangulo is the place to stay. A big thank you has to go to Jessica [The Amazing Chef] and her team for taking care of my Wife's diary allergy and even making a birthday cake for her, which was delicious. For breakfast they made her muffins, pancakes and scones, in the UK many places are reluctant to do these without pushing and provide very little choice. The food served was excellent [absolutely delicious, fresh fish daily and of a very high standard] for both the normal and allergy sufferers. Rooms were great - amazing views. Minor Points: Lifebelts should be mandatory on all boat transfers/trips. Couple sections of the stairs did not have hand rails, its nice to hold on when you are going up and down the steep stairs. There is a hard sell on the activities.
Stunning location, lovely rooms with ocean views and super cheery staff! Lovely fresh fish and lovely honeymoon touches. Mozambique is a rare treat! Thank you to all the staff! PS good deep sea fishing!
