A few years ago I changed my lifestyle – mainly to lose weight – by introducing exercise into my life and changing my eating habits. I never realised how much I would enjoy it and how I would strive to maintain my weight loss. I enjoy running, boot camps and high intensity circuit style training as well as studio classes which are good fun and a great way to meet like-minded people with similar goals and inspirational stories. I now feel more confident, happier and healthier and I have lots more energy for work and socialising. I believe we should all invest the time in ourselves to give us balance and escape the daily stresses of life. I love working hard through exercise and eating good food but all that hard work deserves some treats and pampering so I sometimes treat myself to a well-deserved massage or spa day whenever I can, along with wine, cheese and of course chocolate!
I started going to the gym as a hobby around five years ago and it gradually became part of my everyday life rather than feeling like a chore. I then incorporated healthy eating into my life and found that the combination of fitness and healthy food have made a real improvement to my health. I’ve noticed changes for the better in various aspects of my life, from my mood to my skin. I believe there is a fitness regime suitable for everyone, no matter what your age or ability and it’s true that you’ll never say the words ‘I regret that work-out’. I recently started reading about mindfulness and I’m learning how to become more aware, switch my mind off and lower anxiety levels as I believe that health is a state of body and wellness is a state of being.
My interest in wellness started when I was lucky enough to visit and spend time at The BodyHoliday in St Lucia. This was my first insight into wellbeing holidays and it really changed my opinion of the benefits of having a more active lifestyle. It inspired me to research these types of holidays which offer a balance of relaxation and wellbeing. I’ve learned about all of the fantastic ways of living a healthier lifestyle including yoga, Pilates and many more relaxing exercise programmes and treatments that make you feel wonderful. I also learned that having a balanced diet doesn’t mean that you have to put up with boring or flavourless foods. There are so many delicious options to indulge in that you don’t ever have to feel that you are missing out.
I love meditation and yoga, and I try to make these a part of my daily life. I find it’s a great way to de-stress and feel more centred, calm and energised. I really feel the benefit of looking after my wellbeing and so I also try to incorporate wellness into my holidays. Last year I went to Bali for a yoga and meditation retreat. I love being outside, surrounded by nature, and for me, that alone is enough to enhance my wellbeing but I also enjoy making the most of the fresh air and scenery with activities such as walking, cycling and surfing. It’s so important to take the time to look after yourself, escape the distractions of modern life and spend time doing the things that you love.
