First class - only class
Sitting in the reception awaiting our transport back to reality does leave me with a tinge of sadness that our holiday is over. Mom Tri's yet again have delivered luxury, service and friendship at a level most places will never achieve. This journey at Mom Tri' had us situated in one of the beach wing rooms, just above the pool bar - room2101 - my initial thought was worry as the pool and bar area may be noisy, but when you enter and see the fantastic view over the bay with the Anderman Sea disappearing into the distance it's just WOW. No noise was evident from the pool area may I add. For sure this is not a modern brand new Hotel, it's a relatively small boutique residence with charm and style. The pool area is fabulous to sit and relax, or maybe take a stroll along the beach with the crystal clear water tickling your feet! The bar in the evening offers a bespoke waiter service to match the relaxing jazz music or the tinkling of the ivories while you take in the breath taking views with the warm sea breeze cooling you down with the gin and tonic at hand. In the bar you will be met by a few of the amazing staff at the resort, this is what makes Mom Tri's the world leader it is! Maybe you will get Aon, with an infectious smile and an eye detail - time after time you will be met with the drink of your choice and a happy welcome - just effortless! Maybe wine is your tipple, then it's Not that you require, with his wealth of knowledge and ability to please the out demanding pallet I feel sure he will have just the grape to please. The whole bar, in fact the Resort, is kind of set out in an old colonial feel to it that oozes quality. The bedrooms offer a mix of the old to the modern - but with one common goal - they are all not only spacious but return an excellent sleep quality with full amenities. On waking up then go and enjoy the renowned breakfast! Ether a continental or a cooked - or maybe something totally bespoke - these guys will produce. Fabulous breakfast buffet. The resort is set at the goof the small hill - not to challenging - and about a five minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Kata. As it's out of the main area tranquility is offered in abundance! The MomTri's taxi is best for me - pre book at reception, they will cost you about 100bhart more than a tuk tuk but you willbe comfortable and insured!! Taxi tothe next village - Karron is 400bhart, the madness of Patong is 600bhart. Lastly the resort has a new guest relation manager - offering a very personal and comprehensive knowledge this lady is worth her weight in gold - her name is Nitnoi and will help in any situation, along with her team in reception your stay will be trouble free and enjoyable. This was about our fifth stay here and the reason why is evident from the moment you check in,every year we see the same faces in the guests as with the staff, all happy and all friends - there is a good reason for this! So if your considering Thailand, but want the first class treatment - then you just stumbled across it. Well done to all the staff for making a special holiday magical again - see you all soon. Close to perfection, but...
This was our 5th trip to Thailand, so I really know what I can and what I should expect from certain hotel. This time it was supposed a relaxing week, no sightseeing, no travelling around. That's why we chose Mom Tri's Villa Royale as the perfect place. Location and setting - just amazing, can't be better. This is small boutique hotel, very, very quite with perfectly maintained green areas. Easy access to really nice and not crowded beach. Main restaurant for dinner also perfect. Great food, great service and really reasonable prices. The room would also be perfect if ... we had hot water and pillows (!!!) after check-in at 1:30 AM. Although we were apologized with a bottle of wine, dinner vouchers, roses for my wife, YOU NEVER HAVE THE SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE THE FIRST IMPRESSION. After a bit disappointing mid night check in and short sleep we went for breakfast. Great place, great view but breakfast was just average. Fruits are very good in Thailand, so serving mango, papaya, jack fruit,.... is not something exciting. Coffee was from "amateur" coffee machine, breads much below average, croissants - below average. If you do not eat eggs, ham or smoked salmon not much choice. So, breakfast were really disappointing, really. Final comments. Location and setting is just given. Gardens are perfectly maintained. Main restaurant is really great. Front desk/housekeeping services needs improvement (many problems with internet access). Breakfasts... needs serious rethinking and management decisions - do not match with the rest.
Lovely Thai fusion restaurant that is a cut above the rest of Hat Kata. Sunset view. Attentive, yet relaxed service. And delicious food. The tapas are beautifully presented and can be taken in the bat area. Restaurant area also great location and view. Fantastic flavours. And no need to be staying at the hotel to use the restaurant.

Nice But Dated
We stayed here out of necessity after having to divert our holiday from Vietnam from a typhoon. Our original room was at the front of the site, near the main road, which was not too much of an issue. What did prove to be a problem was the interconnecting door in to the next room. Why they insist on having these in every room I do not know. Unfortunately the family in the next room had a child that woke up crying throughout the night and the noise was unbearable in our room. We put up with for 2 nights before being asked to move. To be fair this was done straight away without a fuss to what was supposed to be an upgraded room. It was in the Ocean Wing but the only additional benefit we could see was a slightly better view of the beach. The room itself was smaller and the décor was certainly more dated. The breakfast buffet was pretty inadequate in our opinion. We have stayed in several high end hotels in Thailand and this was certainly the worst breakfast spread we have seen. The chicken sausages were uncooked every day. Every day I pointed this out to the staff. Finally on our last day one of the few waiters who could speak English claimed that the sausages were "boiled for over an hour" and therefore they could not be undercooked....... Not sure how they explain why they were still pink in the middle then...? The cleaning was also substandard. Our room did not seem to be mopped the entire time we were there and dirt and sand just seem to get swept in to the corner of the balcony. The food in Mom Tri's Kitchen is nice but pricey and I would not say it represents value for money compared to places in town. The staff in the restaurant were overall better than the staff in the rest of the hotel. I think the management (of which we saw none) have forgotten that first and foremost they are a hotel resort, with a restaurant attached. In summary we would not stay here again. It does not represent value for money. We stayed in The Shore @ The Katathani at the beginning of the year and for a little bit extra you get world class service and accommodation there.
