Renowned as the summer residence of Thailand’s Royal Family, Hua Hin is the epitome of elegance and sophistication. Sequestered by three miles of pristine white sands and tall swaying palms, the city’s beachfront is where holiday makers spend their days. Once a modest fishing town, Hua Hin has risen to become one of Thailand’s most cosmopolitan cities, boasting a number of contemporary restaurants serving a plethora of fine international and local cuisine. Head down to The Pier to sample a taste of the local delicacy that is steamed crab, or venture into the colourful Hua Hin Night Market to savour an abundance of flavours from a multitude of food stalls.

For a taste of Hua Hin’s royal history, visit the Maruekatayawan Palace, designed by King Rama VI in 1923. Boasting fine examples of traditional raised Thai architecture and crafted purely from teak wood, the palace takes pride as the longest golden teak palace in the world and enjoys peaceful ocean views. Once belonging to a royal pavilion in Sanamchan Palace, Hua Hin Railway Station, found at the top end of Damnoern Kasem Road, stands as another delightful part of Thailand’s royal history. This beautiful wooden train station is one of the oldest in Thailand and connects to the capital of Bangkok.

Hua Hin beach, also known as Hat Hua Hin stretches over three miles from the rocky headland at the centre of town and finishes in Khao Takiap, famous for its Buddhist temple clinging to a cliffside. Boasting calm sands and rarely a drop of rain, Hat Hua Hin offers a range of activities on this vibrant beach to include watersports, diving opportunities and horseback riding upon the sand.

To the north of Hua Hin lies the sleepy fishing resort of Cha Am. From Monday morning to Friday afternoon, this peaceful town enjoys tranquil talcum powder beaches, calm waters and a completely laid-back atmosphere throughout, particularly within the string of restaurants and bars overlooking the glorious coastline.  Take time away from the beach and head to Th Chaolai for the awe-inspiring Wat Nerancharama, featuring a six-armed statue of Buddha whose hands cover each of the sensory organs in a symbolic gesture.

When the weekend arrives, this small town becomes populated with the local inhabitants and students from Bangkok to create a unique party atmosphere. Experience a true sense of authentic Thai culture as colourful decorations hang beneath Casuarina Trees, whilst captivating scents of local cuisine and barbequed seafood flow through the air as the powerful tempo’s beat through your chest.
