AVANI Kalutara Resort

Fuss-free fun by the water

Enjoy a combination of modern architecture, great facilities and a wonderful natural setting.

Perfect for a post-tour beach break this popular hotel has a unique setting where the Kalu River meets the Indian Ocean, just across the lagoon from the lively town of Kalutara. Those relaxing on the peaceful palm-dotted terrace can enjoy the cooling sea breeze and take a refreshing dip in the ocean-view swimming pool. Rejuvenating treatments are available at the spa, which is located at the neighbouring sister hotel Anantara Kalutara. And if you’re wishing to be a little more active there are a selection of watersports (also at Anantara Kalutara), an overwater zipline and rock climbing tower, and guided cycling trips.

Why we love AVANI Kalutara Resort

  • There’s something very appealing about the seaside setting at the mouth of the Kalu River, with water on three sides

  • Active types will be spoiled for choice, with everything from ziplining and abseiling to fishing trips and waterskiing on offer

  • You can opt to go All Inclusive, so you don’t have to think about your meals, snacks and hot and cold drinks

  • With dedicated kids’ and teens’ clubs, parents can grab some downtime knowing the children are in good hands

With themed buffets at the main restaurant, two bars with a snack menu and light bites at the in-house deli-café, plus access to two speciality restaurants at the neighbouring sister property, there’s no shortage of dining options for guests at Avani Kalutara.

Mangrove
At the main restaurant you can dine either indoors or out on the terrace overlooking the lagoon. There are plenty of dishes to choose from at the breakfast and lunch buffets and in the evening there are often themed buffets showcasing a range of international cuisines.

Karadiya Bar
From 10am to midnight, the relaxed poolside bar serves up cold drinks and a small selection of snacks.

Miridiya Bar
Set beside the river, this all-day bar is a great place to pause for coffee during the day and cocktails later on.

The Pantry
The cool all-day deli serves artisan sandwiches and refreshing salads as well as cold-pressed juices, smoothies and coffee.

The cool hanging loungers for two at the poolside Karadiya Bar are our top spots for sundowner cocktails to the sound of the waves.
