Zell has a magical setting on the banks of Lake Zell at the foot of the majestic Schmittenhöhe Mountain. Zell am See is a delightful historical town of cobbled streets and squares that offer a vibrant mix of lively bars, restaurants, pavement cafés and good shopping. The tree-lined slopes stretch down towards the lake giving lovely views and nearby Kaprun with its snow-sure glacier is only a short bus ride away. Non-skiers will find plenty to enjoy including walks across the frozen lake, sleigh rides and even excursions to Salzburg and Vienna.

The lakeside promenade is perfect for a gentle stroll and leads to attractive gardens, lakeside bathing areas and neighbouring Schüttdorf, a smaller village with a laid-back air. However the entire area is also an activity lover’s dream with superb hiking and biking opportunities plus plenty of high adrenaline adventure sports as well as a variety of watersports on offer. Activities include swimming, waterskiing, sailing, pleasure boating, rollerblading, tennis, indoor pool, ice-skating, climbing wall, summer skiing and scenic flights. There are excellent cycling opportunities including The Tauern Radweg and easy routes around the lake. Mountain bikers will find excellent tracks around Kaprun.

The Seehotel and Villa Freiberg has an unrivalled, idyllic position nestled in lush private gardens on the shore of Lake Zell. The hotel offers magnificent panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains and is less than a five minute stroll from the village centre. Saturday arrivals and departures only. (NB. Although a railway line runs behind the hotel, all rooms face the gardens and lake so there is minimal disturbance.)
