Itinerary

  • Nairobi: 1 night
  • Lake Nakuru: 1 night
  • Mount Kenya: 1 night
  • Shaba Game Reserve: 2 nights
  • Masai Mara: 2 nights

Day 1 London/Nairobi

Fly Kenya Airways overnight from Heathrow to Nairobi, arriving the following morning.

Day 2 Nairobi

Transfer to the Nairobi Serena hotel for one night, with plenty of time to enjoy some of the city’s attractions such as the wildlife park or elephant orphanage

Day 3 Nairobi/Lake Nakuru

Depart by road travelling west through Kenya's fertile highlands, where tea and coffee plantations abound, revealing spectacular views of the Great Rift Valley. Continue past Lake Naivasha with its crescent island, to Lake Nakuru, coloured by a shimmering flamingo pink from thousands of the beautiful birds lining its shores. You'll drive through the National Park and arrive at Sarova Lionhill Lodge affording unforgettable views of the lake from its hillside perch. Lunch is served at the lodge. The afternoon game drive explores the park, where numerous animals such as waterbuck and Rothschild’s giraffe are sighted as well as baboons, buffalos and warthogs. The main attractions here are the rhinos however, as it is a designated rhino sanctuary and it is one of the best places in Kenya to observe them. Return to the lodge for dinner and a good nights sleep.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru/Mount Kenya

After breakfast drive to Nyahururu falls for a photo-stop. Still known to many as Thomson's Falls, its waters fall 237 feet making it the country’s highest. Continue driving to the foothills of Mount Kenya, arriving at the Serena Mountain Lodge for lunch followed by an afternoon at leisure and overnight stay. While away a few lazy hours on the viewing deck perched above the floodlit waterhole where animals such as buffalo and elephant come to drink. NB Warm clothing is advisable as nights tend to be chilly.

Day 5 Mount Kenya/Shaba Game Reserve

After breakfast at the lodge you head further north to your lunch-time destination, Sarova Shaba Lodge, set in the Shaba National Reserve in ‘Born Free’ country. Your home for two nights, the lodge is set on a natural oasis where the water is channelled into cascades and fishponds throughout the grounds and is located next door to the site where Joy Adamson raised her adopted animals. The reserve and the neighbouring Samburu and Buffalo Springs Reserves are home to abundant plains game and the accompanying predators. Animals commonly seen are elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, cheetahs and buffalos. Enjoy an afternoon game viewing returning for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 6 Shaba Game Reserve

Full day game drive in the Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves with picnic lunch.

Day 7 Shaba Game Reserve/Masai Mara

After breakfast transfer to the airstrip for your Air Kenya light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara. On arrival transfer to the Sarova Mara Game Camp for lunch. Located within the world famous Game Reserve, the camp's 75 tents capture the true spirit of the Kenyan wild. After a restful afternoon, set out for a game drive in the reserve, a magnificent landscape of open plains bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries, punctuated by marshes and forests and supporting the highest density of game to be seen anywhere. Return to camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8 Masai Mara

Enjoy the entire day in the Masai Mara with early morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 9 Masai Mara/Nairobi/London

Return this afternoon by Air Kenya light aircraft to Nairobi and connect with your return Kenya Airways overnight flight to Heathrow.
