Itinerary
- Zanzibar: 2 nights
- Serengeti National Park: 3 nights
- Zanzibar: 2 nights
Day 1
South African Airways overnight flight from Heathrow to Windhoek via Johannesburg. On arrival transfer to the Windhoek Country Club in a Standard room and stay overnight
Day 3
The discovery begins with a short flight to Namibia’s big game country, Etosha, where the diverse flora and fauna is experienced on game walks and drives and visits to hides both in the camp and in the National Park itself. Anderson’s Camp is surrounded by plains teeming with wildlife and situated close to Etosha. The resurrected farmstead now forms the anchor fronting onto a thriving waterhole and the en suite tented rooms are raised on decks for an enhanced view. On game drives you will visit numerous springs and pans in search of lion, leopard, elephant and black rhino, as well as plains game. Spend two nights here.
Day 5
After an early breakfast travel west into Damaraland and the Palmwag concession. Here and in the surrounding areas the desert-adapted elephant and elusive black rhino can be found. You will be staying either in the comfortable rooms or the tented camp at Palmwag Lodge. Over the next four nights in the enormous Damaraland wilderness your guides expose the sheer magnificence of nature’s survival strategies through walks, tracking and game drives
Day 6
The start of a long overland journey today as you continue towards the Hoanib River Valley through some of the most rugged and hard to get to areas. The mountains and canyons of the Hoanib provide a last refuge for the legendary desert elephant, and you have the opportunity to explore this area on game drives and walks and experience the wilder side of Africa where only the sporadic roar of lion or cackle of hyena punctuates the night. Two nights will be spent at the ‘Discoverer-style’ Hoanib Tented Camp close to the river - a relaxed haven from which you explore this wild land on foot or in one of the safari vehicles. The camp is solar-powered and the tents are en suite with flush toilet and bucket shower, each comfortably furnished with wood and brass recreating a sense of the early explorers.
Day 8
Travel east this morning to Sesfontein and the award-winning Damaraland Camp, situated on the northern face of the Huab River with imposing mountain views. Featuring ten comfortable tents with en suite facilities and endless vistas, the dining room and bar are combined under canvas and an open fire is enjoyed on calm evenings. Although wildlife is not concentrated, desert-adapted elephant, oryx, springbok, ostrich and other desert animals are seen. Overnight at Damaraland Camp
Day 9
After an early breakfast travel to Twyfelfontein where you take a guided walk to view the prehistoric rock art. After lunch continue south to Swakopmund, a vibrant combination of Africa and Europe on the coast. The Stiltz Lodge provides breathtaking views of the Atlantic and the red beach dune, where each thatched bungalow is linked by wooden walkways to the main restaurant and there is easy access to town to enjoy the history and cuisine
Day 10
Drive south to Walvis Bay Lagoon this morning, where many flamingos and pelicans amass. On the calm waters of the bay you have the chance to kayak, allowing you to approach seals, dolphins and water birds in their habitat, providing unique photographic opportunities. Afterwards, drive inland to the Kulala Discoverer Camp in a private Sossusvlei concession. Similar in style to the Hoanib Camp, here you enjoy access to the Sossusvlei dunes for walks, game drives and stargazing. Photography in the early morning of the dunes is particularly stunning. Stay overnight in camp.
