Icons Of South Africa
A brand new itinerary showcasing three of South Africa’s ‘icons’: Mala Mala Game Reserve, with possibly the best game viewing in South Africa The Blue Train, an elegant and distinguished experience of a bygone era and Cape Town, specifically the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa.
Our opinion
A truly opulent way of sampling the best of this astonishing country.

Day 2 to Day 3 Johannesburg/Sabi Sands Game Reserve
On arrival connect with your scheduled South African Airways flight direct to Mala Mala airstrip, arriving at lunchtime. Mala Mala is the largest game reserve in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and shares a 12 mile open border with the Kruger National Park, providing fantastic big five sightings. Spend three nights at the most luxurious camp, Rattray’s on Mala Mala, home to just eight superb suites. Each has wooden floors, en suite bathrooms, televisions, private garden area, plunge pool, outdoor shower and a deck overlooking the Sand River. All meals, laundry, mineral water, game drives, and bush walks are included.
Day 3 to Day 4 Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Explore this stunning reserve under the expert tutelage of the camp’s rangers and trackers, seeking out the resident big cats, elephants, rhinos and other magnificent game that often comes to drink at the river that flows through the reserve. One of the benefits of a private reserve such as Mala Mala is the lack of public and other safari vehicles making the game viewing so much more intimate and spectacular.
Day 5 to Day 6 Sabi Sands Game Reserve/Pretoria
After one final game drive and breakfast, you are returned to the airstrip for your South African Airways flight back to Johannesburg, where you are transferred to Pretoria, South Africa’s capital, for one night at Illyria House, a magnificent manor house set in a pretty garden offering sweeping views across the city.
Day 6 to Day 7 Pretoria/Blue Train
An early morning pick up today for your transfer to the charm and sophistication of the Blue Train, waiting to whisk you in true style across this huge country to Cape Town. Your luxury suite houses a private bathroom with a deep bath, twin or double bed, private digital entertainment centre and a selection of CDs and DVDs. Personal service comes as standard with a dedicated butler. Choose from two meal sittings where the legendary cuisine is sure to delight (collared shirts and long trousers required for dinner), and retreat to the Club Car for an after dinner drink or cigar.
Day 7 to Day 10 Cape Town
Arrive refreshed in Cape Town where you will transfer to the chic and stylish Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, nestled at the foot of these famous mountains just outside the fashionable suburb of Camps Bay. Enjoy stunning views over the azure Atlantic, superb cuisine, and an award winning Sanctuary Spa. Spend three nights in a mountain facing room, perhaps hiring a car to explore the beauty and attractions of the city and its surroundings.
Day 10 to Day 11 Cape Town/London
A full final day in Cape Town before your South African Airways overnight flight to Heathrow.
