When it comes to safari transportation, the question of minibus or 4x4 is often the one most asked. Overland driving safaris are the best way to experience the true heart of Africa, and a great way to spot the plethora of wildlife that roams these magnificent countries.

Gaze out of your window across the vast open plains as you rock with the movement of the vehicle in search of wildlife. With a crackle the radio comes to life: a sighting. The driver veers off, careering into the wilderness in search of a pride of lions, a singular cheetah, a baby elephant playing in the dust – whatever it is, you’ll be there soon."

Both Kenya and Tanzania offer overland safaris by 4x4 with either open sides or an open roof, which ensures everyone gets a window seat as well as a great view! In Kenya you can also travel by minibus which has a pop-up roof and is generally more comfortable than the 4x4s. However this comfort comes at a price as you are less able to travel off road in the parks that allow it as well as being limited to certain terrain.

In both Kenya and Tanzania you have the option to upgrade to a private vehicle at an extra cost. This is ideal for those travelling in groups, with children, or those who want a more specialised safari experience.
