Sands Suites Resort & Spa

Views from every corner

Traditionally Mauritian in style and delightfully peaceful, this resort has an unbeatable setting.

With a backdrop of the famous Tamarin Bay, Rempart Mountain and the iconic Le Morne beyond, you could hardly wish for a more idyllic setting. Just picture yourself in the pretty infinity pool, soaking in the relaxed atmosphere and one of the best views on the island. There’s a real sense of place and authenticity here, with thatched buildings inspired by traditional houses, friendly, yet unobtrusive service and a peaceful setting. Should you wish to tear yourself away from the pool or sandy beach, you can explore the Tamarin Bay lagoon by kayak or pedal boat (and possibly spot the resident dolphins out in the bay as you do); wander along one of the island’s most popular stretches of beach towards the resorts and village of Flic-en-Flac; or have a massage or an extended spa ritual at the Sands Spa.

Sands Suites welcomes families with children over 12 years old.

Why we love Sands Suites Resort & Spa

  • The spacious suites all come with superb panoramas of the clear blue waters of Tamarin Bay and the hills beyond

  • You can dine at neighbouring Maradiva Villas as well as in the resort, so you’ll be spoilt for culinary choice

  • There’s an activity for every mood, from serene yoga classes on the beach to racing across the waves on water skis

  • The charming spa has outdoor pavilions where you can be expertly massaged into a state of complete relaxation

There are three restaurants at Sands Suites, plus a snack menu in the bar, but guests can also ring the changes with a visit to the three eateries at the neighbouring Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa.

Tamarind Terrace
The resort’s buffet restaurant has an impressive choice of local and international dishes at breakfast and dinner; during the latter, there is also a handpicked wine list.

Pink Peppercorn
With shady tables on the sand, and freshly grilled fish on the menu, this intimate restaurant is deservedly popular for lunch and dinner.

Spices Restaurant
This evening-only option features an à la carte menu of Mediterranean cuisine with a twist.

The Dolphin Bar
Open from 8am until late, with a snack menu in the afternoon, the rustic bar offers beautifully crafted cocktails and live entertainment later in the day.

Create special memories with a romantic private dinner just for two on the beach, with a table by the water, a gauze-draped gazebo to lounge in with an aperitif, and sophisticated international cuisine.

What's included

Half Board • Breakfast and dinner at Tamarind Terrace.

The small Sands Spa has four treatment rooms, including thatched outdoor cabanas, where you can enjoy one of the signature rituals or something from the particularly impressive massage list. There’s also a sauna, hammam and Jacuzzi that can be enjoyed without an appointment.

Group and private yoga and meditation classes are held in the gardens and on the beach.

The facilities at the fitness centre include cardio machines and free weights, along with a range of outdoor classes such as Zumba and aqua aerobics.

Outdoor activities include tennis, table tennis, running, walking and guided bicycle tours to Flic-en-Flac village. Golf can be arranged for an extra payment.

The resort’s Sundivers PADI/CMAS diving school offers courses for all levels and trips three times a day. Water skiing, snorkelling, dinghy sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, pedal boating, kayaking, windsurfing and glass-bottom boat rides are available at the boat house. For a supplement, you can also take various catamaran cruises or an exhilarating trip in a speedboat.

Any unwanted sheets, blankets and pillows are donated to Caritas Mauritius to be distributed to those in need. The drinking water in the rooms comes in Be Eau bottles made from plants, which can be composted or reused. Everything from vegetable peels to coffee grounds is turned into fertiliser for the gardens. Waste cooking oil is collected by a local company and recycled into biofuel.

Dine-around dining at sister hotel Maradiva is not available for stays from 31 March to 31st October 2023 due to a resort closure.

Minimum stay: 6 nights 27 Dec-02 Jan.

Compulsory New Year’s Eve gala dinner, supplements apply.
