Niyama Private Islands Maldives

Perfectly playful, casually chilled

Niyama has a different approach to a Maldives holiday, blending blissful relaxation with a whole lot of fun.

Niyama’s islands – Chill and Play – set the tone for the resort. Guests can flit from one to the other, depending on their mood, then retreat to fantastically modern villas, which are the epitome of exclusive hideaways (you’d be forgiven for not emerging during your entire stay if the restaurants weren’t so tempting). Bicycles come as standard in each villa, so expect to see guests whizzing around paradise on two wheels, weaving between the pool, the spa, numerous restaurants, and activities aplenty.

Why we love Niyama Private Islands Maldives

  • There’s great surf break on the shore at Vodi Point, something of a rarity in these parts

  • Niyama boasts one of the biggest kids club in the Maldives, but we love the above-and-beyond touches that make children feel like VIPs too

  • All villas and pavilions are stocked with home-made ice cream and popcorn and come with bicycles to get around the islands

  • Go on a turtle quest to find them swimming in their natural habitat

NEST
Dine among the trees, six metres high, where an Asian-fusion menu is served.

Tribal

Blu

Epicure
Over on Chill island, Epicure is open for a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner, and serves treats to the poolside.

Subsix
Reached by speedboat, then by descending underground to a underwater restaurant which transforms into an after-dark, adults-only party zone.

Dune
A beach lounge serving snacks and drinks to your sunbed.

Fahrenheit
A rooftop bar that opens in time for sunset and closes when the party stops.

The Deli
Grab and go snacks, whether you need a caffeine hit or something sweet.

From options for the whole family, to couple treatments, ayurvedic programs and multi-day rituals, Drift Spa is open day and night and there’s something for everyone. A selection of yogas and meditation are available. There’s also a menu of vitamin infusions available at Drift Spa.

A 24-hour gym that’s fully equipped. Or try one of the classes, from boxing to circuit training. There’s Zumba for kids and teen workouts too. A floodlit tennis court is nestled in the jungle foliage, with complimentary rackets and balls.

Great diving on the doorstep through a PADI centre with courses and equipment for beginners to experts. There are diving options from kids aged eight and over, too.

You can snorkel through the house reef straight from the beach. And when you’re ready for more, there’s jet skiing, water-skiing, mono-skiing, wakeboarding, knee boarding, catamarans, windsurfing, kitesurfing, parasailing, fun rubes, kayaking, sea bobbing, hydroflying…a watersports paradise.

MARINE BIO-ADVENTURE A 101 intro to the ocean. Spend the day with the resident marine biologist – at sea in search of dolphins, snorkelling in search of turtles, and learning all about reefs and how to regenerate them.

CORAL ADOPTION Collect healthy fragments of coral from the lagoon, attach them to frames, then plant them in the lagoon nursery. There’s nothing more satisfying then returning the next year to see them in bloom.

TETE-A-TETE WITH THE MARINE BIOLOGIST The resident marine biologist can be found almost every day at The Deli. Take in a presentation about sharks, mantas and sea turtles, or get your heads together to ID the latest species you manage to capture on camera.

ANNUAL CELEBRATIONS The hotel takes great pride in celebrating Earth Hour, Earth Day and other environmental initiatives each year. Join them in turning the lights out, doing a big clean of the ocean, launching new recycling programmes and more.

JUST FOR KIDS The future lies in instilling a love of nature in the next generation. As part of the kids’ club activities, little ones are taken on fun-meets-informative dolphin cruises and guided snorkelling expeditions.

For younger children, the free kids’ club starts from age 3, but you can pay by the hour for little ones aged 12 months and up at the Globetrotters club, which is great if you want some grown-up time. We love that so many of the activities here involve the whole family, right down to the spa – which has family and children’s spa treatments.

‘Play’ is linked to the original island, ‘Chill’, by a small bridge. It’s where you’ll find the family-friendly BLU beachfront restaurant, kids’ club, and an infinity pool with children’s area and poolside cabanas, so the accommodation here is a good option for families with younger children who want to be close to everything. Family Beach Pool Villas sleep up to three adults and two children, with a living area that turns into a bedroom for children. These have a private deck and a family-sized plunge pool. The two-bedroom Beach Pool Pavilions are ideal for larger families – they sleep up to four adults and four children and have nice little touches like a Butler’s pantry and direct access to the beach.

Minimum stays apply.
