One of the best places I’ve ever stayed is Diamonds Athuruga Beach & Water Villas in the Maldives. As soon as I arrived I couldn’t believe the colour of the powder white sand mixed with the crystal clear turquoise waters. The water villas are simply stunning and stand out a treat as they’re all white against the Maldivian backdrop. The house reef was incredible, it was the first time I’d seen a turtle come right up to the surface just in front of my face. I got some incredible photos!

In the South Ari Atoll, approx. 25 minutes by seaplane from Malé airport and close to sister resort Diamonds Thudufushi Beach & Water Villas.

The island has an attractive and informal open-air restaurant and bar on the main island, a boutique, Serena Spa and regular evening entertainment. There is a Watersports Centre offering windsurfing, canoeing, laser boats and hobie cat sailing (skippered charters), a PADI dive school, snorkelling trips, waterskiing, deep sea fishing and bottom fishing can be arranged (at extra cost). Superb snorkelling is available from just off the island. Water Villas are accessed by a jetty from the main island and enjoy access to the à la carte overwater restaurant and bar.

Accommodation information

The 46 Beach Bungalows are positioned just yards from the water's edge and boast air-conditioning, ceiling fan, sitting area, telephone, iPod docking station, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, open-air bathrooms with a shower and a terrace.
The 25 beautiful Sunrise Water Villas and Sunset Water Villas are built on stilts over the water and have an iMac computer and complimentary Wi-Fi, a large terrace with dining area and sun beds, with direct access to the water and exclusive dining available in the à la carte overwater restaurant.
