Amangalla
Steeped in colonial history, Amangalla languishes at the heart of the 17th century Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Amangalla exudes an air of grandeur married with the traditions of days gone-by, amidst Dutch heritage and pillared verandahs.
The stunning location of Amangalla allows guests to appreciate and experience the living history that is the Fort. It is best explored on foot, meandering through the old town, returning to sit on the Amangalla verandah for afternoon tea. Deriving its name from galla, the Sinhalese word the town of Galle, Amangalla is a collection of buildings dating back over 400 years. In 1863 the buildings became the Oriental Hotel making it the oldest hotel in Sri Lanka. The Great Hall is the grand entrance to the property with its soaring ceilings, overhead fans, chandeliers and original polished jack-wood floors, reminiscent of bygone days.
