- Perugia’s old centre hinges around the pedestianised Corso Vannucci, named after the local painter Pietro Vannucci, alias Perugino. At its northern end is Piazza IV November, dominated by the imposing Fontana Maggiore, a 13th century fountain by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. To the rear rises the 15th century Duomo, its entrance flanked by a statue of Pope Julius II.
- Amongst all the treasures of Perugia don’t miss the beautiful Etruscan gate called Porta Marzia, or a stroll through the surreal, shadowy medieval quarter, all located underground. These streets were vaulted over to support the Rocca Paolina, the Pope’s fortress.
