Bologna
Bologna is one of the main gastromonic cities of Italy famous for bolognese, tortellini and bagliatelle. It’s a wealthy and cosy place, startlingly medieval in style, and where there is always something happening, be it theatre, music, the city’s strong summer festival, or just the café and restaurant scene brimming with life.
Bologna grew up at the junction of the Via Aemila and the main road over the Apennines from Florence. Modern Bologna has a splendid medieval heritage, with its collection of charming porticoed streets, palaces clustered around the two central squares, the famous Torri degli Asinelli e Garisenda, the leaning towers mentioned in Dante’s Divine Comedy. Last but not least a culinary Mecca.
