Lake Millstatt is the deepest lake in Carinthia and has a wonderful scenic setting amongst gently sloping wooded mountains that offer excellent walking opportunities. The traditional, delightful villages are full of charm and character and offer lakeside bathing areas plus a wide range of activities for couples and families to enjoy.
Nestling into the hillside overlooking the lake, the charming centre is full of attractive hotels, historical buildings, pretty flower filled window boxes, shops and cafés. The village is dominated by the impressive Benedictine abbey dating from the 11th Century where regular concerts and organ recitals are held. The large lakeside bathing area has a sandy beach and Carinthia’s oldest diving platform and is set amid attractive lakeside gardens. Ferry services around the lake leave from the nearby port.
Lake Millstatt summer holiday highlights
- Lake Millstatt and the surrounding Nockberg National park offer 310 miles of hiking trails from gentle strolls around the lake, to challenging hikes and Nordic walking routes.
- There is a 17 mile cycle route around the lake and the Peter Pan cycle ferry links the two shores, and the Nockberg mountain range offers excellent mountain biking.
- There are plenty of activities and watersports on offer around the lake including swimming, fishing, sailing,horseriding, paragliding, tennis, minigolf, rollerblading and beach volleyball.
- The Lake Millstatt Regional Golf Course is an 18-hole Par 71 course situated on a sunny plateau above the lake.
