Day 1
British Airways flight from Gatwick to Atlanta arriving the same day. Collect your rental car and proceed to your hotel where your step by step flydrive pack will be waiting for you.
Day 2
Commence your journey by heading north into the Appalachian Mountains to Chattanooga. Incorporated in 1851, the city began as an outpost on the border of the Cherokee Nation and then developed into a diverse city. Don’t miss a visit to the Tennessee museum, Rugby Falls and the Chattanooga Choo Choo, which is one of the world’s largest model railways. Overnight in Chattanooga. Approx. 114 miles.
Day 3
Head west to Memphis, the home of the blues for a two night stay. Head to busy Beale Street, with its array of shops and restaurants and carnival atmosphere. Drive out for a tour of Graceland or see the original Memphis Belle World War II bomber airplane. Approx. 317 miles.
Day 5
Drive to Nashville and soak up the sounds in this country music capital during your two night stay. Visit the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Approx. 210 miles.
Day 7
Head east through Chimney Rock Park and if you have time ride the elevator to the top for amazing views. Explore the parks nature trails, caves and rare plant life. Overnight in Asheville. Approx. 293 miles.
Day 8
Drive to Raleigh, North Carolina to visit the home of Bull Durham and the Duke Farms and Gardens in nearby Durham. Overnight in Raleigh. Approx. 264 miles.
Day 9
Continue southward exploring the beautiful towns of the Low Country. Arrive in Wilmington for a two night stop. Enjoy the coast, relax on the beach or explore the historic Cotton Exchange. Approx. 120 miles.
Day 11
Travel south to Myrtle Beach with its variety of entertainment and wonderful beaches before arriving in Charleston. Enjoy your two night stay in this charming city. Charleston truly represents the grandeur and elegance of the south. Gorgeous treelined avenues add to the charm of the antebellum architecture. Take an optional cruise to Fort Sumter where the Civil War began or visit one of the many pretty plantation homes. Approx. 166 miles.
Day 13
Arrive in romantic Savannah, which was founded in 1733, for a two night stay. Explore the restored waterfront area or take a walking tour of the many interesting squares. Approx. 110 miles.
Day 15
Drive along the Antebellum Trail, through Macon, famous for its plantation style homes before returning your car to Atlanta airport for your British Airways flight back to Gatwick arriving the next day. Approx. 249 miles.
