Bellagio, Las Vegas
We chose to get married abroad so our closest friends could celebrate with us for a whole week rather than just one day. Las Vegas is so different, has something for everyone and isn’t too expensive.
Bellagio has a stunning setting and we chose to get married on the Terrazza Di Sogno, which has wonderful fountains. It’s a totally unique resort with lots of beautiful photo opportunities. We stayed there as well, and upgraded to a suite so our guests could mingle while we were having photos taken. The ceremony was just the right length, and the fountains erupted as we had our first kiss which was magical – the guests were amazed!
Planning a wedding is stressful, and when marrying abroad it’s difficult to know what to expect. My tip is to try and relax – I worried and kept trying to imagine what it would be like, but the staff are experts in what they do and I’m glad I put my faith in them, my big day was perfect!

Bali

Rocky’s Boutique Resort, Koh Samui, Thailand
I tied the knot at Rocky’s, an ultra-romantic resort. Our wedding coordinator made it easy to organise and everything was tailored to what we wanted. In the days leading up to the wedding we met with the celebrant, had hair and make-up trials, and picked our photographer and videographer.
We said our vows on the beach in a secluded cove as the sun set. There was amazing attention to detail – a barrier of poles and reeds in the sand, a beautiful arch and sala, an aisle of flower petals and banana cones of rose petals for the guests. It was so relaxed, so romantic ... so perfect!
The evening reception was a Thai banquet buffet in a private room with terrace. Staff made sure it all ran smoothly and the party went on all night. I’d recommend getting married in Thailand. It’s stress-free, romantic, beautiful and personal – simply perfect.

Colony Club, Barbados
I got married in Barbados, where my partner had proposed to me two years before. We chose Colony Club for its elegant, colonial style and sparkling lagoon pools, and 24 of our family and friends came along, staying at different hotels.
The wedding coordinator helped arrange everything – flowers, cake, canapés, bar, hair and make-up, photography, music and limousines to the reception at The Cliff, our favourite restaurant. We met our minister and photographer the day before the wedding and the hotel arranged a car to take us to Bridgetown to get a marriage licence.
The weather on our big day was gorgeous, and my dad led me through the gardens to the gazebo where our guests were seated. After a beautiful ceremony, everyone relaxed with drinks and canapés as we had our first dance to steel pan music on an island by the pool.
Our photographer was excellent, taking plenty of snaps including some on the beach at sunset. I can’t pick a favourite memory – there are too many. The guests still talk about how much they enjoyed our wedding and they all want to go back to Barbados.

Hawksbill, Antigua and the Maldives

Tokoriki Island Resort, Fiji
We couldn’t decide between a church wedding in the UK in winter tropical beach affair, so we had both – a religious ceremony at home followed by a blessing in Fiji. We chose Fiji because we really wanted to go there anyway. Also, not many weddings per week are held there so it felt really special.
Tokoriki Island Resort is a breathtaking private island. Guests stay in private Fijian wood-and-straw huts called bures, which have gardens leading down to the beach.
The ceremony took place late in the afternoon, and the sunset was a magnificent backdrop to the photos. Our coordinator arrived with warriors and flower girls to lead us to the chapel. Then the drummers started up, and the atmosphere was electric.
A Fijian women’s choir sang beautifully during the ceremony, making everyone’s spine tingle. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

You can surprise your partner by arranging for your room to be decorated – one evening we returned to find our room full of ribbons. There were scented candles, champagne and chocolates, and flower petals scattered over the bed. It was so romantic, and really showed the staff here are happy to go the extra mile to make your stay special.”
