Confetti.co.uk has said that weddings abroad are becoming increasingly popular, with a growing trend among couples to tie the knot while on a holiday in an overseas destination.
Belinda Hanks, editor of Confetti.co.uk, said that Mauritius, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand were among the top wedding hotspots.
Of those who tied the knot in the past five years, 26% did so in a foreign country, up from 20% who jetted off to an overseas destination for their big day in the 1990s and 4% in the 1970s, according to surveys.
The financial benefits associated with overseas weddings are encouraging couples to exchange their vows in a foreign destination.
Ms Hanks said: "Brides tell us that they can save money simply because it makes for a smaller wedding party and combines the cost of a honeymoon in one.
"If the couple ends up paying for family and friends to attend, however, then costs can go up."
A recent poll by aweddingabroad.com found that Caribbean is the preferred destination of more than a quarter (28%) of couples planning to tie the knot.
