A US shopping chain is to donate up to a million dollars to US national
parks, in an attempt to encourage families to spend time outdoors.

LL Bean, a leading outdoor activity retailer, is to make the donation as
part of its Millionaire Moment Mission, which will see people share
their experiences of time spent outdoors. LL Bean will donate a dollar
to the National Park Foundation for each person who participates, up to
a maximum of one million.

America's national parks are among the country's biggest attractions,
and are very popular with people taking luxury holidays to the US.

However, the huge costs involved with maintaining the vast areas covered
mean the parks are regularly in financial difficulty.

Furthermore, a previous study carried out by LL Bean showed that almost
three in five parents said their schedules were making spending time
outside difficult.

Chris McCormick, CEO of LL Bean, said that outdoor activities are
"fundamental to happiness".
