Wildlife fans visiting Oman can take the opportunity to go turtle watching over the next few months.
People can visit the Turtle Visitor Centre in the fishing village of Ras al Jinz.
The beach in the village is part of a nature reserve which spans 120 sq km of coastline and sea beds.
The period between July and October is the peak time to watch turtles nesting on the beach.
The visitor centre explains the life cycle of the animals and runs guided viewing excursions at night, when up to 100 female turtles come to Ras Al Jinz beach to nest.
The spot is especially renowned for the nesting endangered green turtle, which swims further inshore between May and July to feed and seek a mate.
Those wanting to visit Ras al Jinz need to apply for a permit which can be obtained from the ministry or the local camp office. People are advised to book in advance during the peak nesting months.
