Those planning to construct a new building for San Francisco's Mexican Museum in the Yerba Buena Cultural District of the city have received an $800,000 (£503,027) boost.

The museum will use the grant from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment to design and construct the new building, which could increase the popularity of USA holidays.

Enrique Norten will be the architect of the new museum.

Dr Jonathon Lorenzo Yorba, CEO of The Mexican Museum, said: "This is a major milestone. We are extremely grateful to the CCHE board and staff for their passion to preserve and document the historic roles of many cultures in making California one of the most diverse regions in the world.

"Clearly the endowment shares our vision to create a permanent home and fulfil our commitment to the community to make Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano and Latino art, history and culture more accessible to all residents and visitors."

Once the new museum opens its doors to the public, tourists taking tailor made holidays in San Francisco would have one more exciting attraction to add to their itinerary.
