Tourists planning to take Thailand holidays next month may not want to miss the opportunity to watch the Phuket King's Cup Regatta, one of the most popular sailing events in the world.

The international yachting event, which is in its 25th year, will be held at Kata Beach between December 3 and December 10.

The largest regatta in Asia will see more than 1,000 sailors from over 35 countries taking part in a record fleet of boats.

Kevin Whitcraft, president of the organising committee of the Phuket King's Cup Regatta, said: ''The Regatta began as a special tribute to His Majesty the King's Fifth Cycle, or 60th birthday.

''It has grown to become the most popular and most hotly contested sailing event in Asia. Phuket King's Cup competitors enjoy champagne sailing conditions, the beautiful Andaman Sea backdrop, a series of exciting race locations and the famous beachfront parties.''

Sailing enthusiasts planning luxury holidays can take flights to Phuket to enjoy the regatta.
