A recent poll has underlined Thailand's popularity as an ideal tourist destination.

The Asian nation has bagged the fourth place in the category for best country in the The Conde Nast Traveller Readers Travel Awards 2011, which are voted for by travellers themselves.

Riding high on the goodwill of tourists across the globe wanting to book their Thailand holidays, the country came tenth in the islands category.

Experts point out that the massive popularity of Phuket as an ideal location for luxury holidays has helped Thailand bag top honours in the poll. "If you are looking for luxury-on-a-budget and a friendly welcome, head for Phuket (you scored it highly for value for money and for people/hospitality)," the report said.

Tourist inflow to Thailand has been rising steadily for quite some time now, with Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport reporting in September that 47 million people used the terminal over the past year.
