Tourism businesses are improving their green credentials as eco-friendly holidays grow in popularity among Britons, says an expert.

British Hospitality Association's deputy chief executive Martin Couchman believes the Government can do more to encourage sustainable travel with regulatory changes.

Greener business practices are believed to be driving the rise in the number of environment conscious travellers who choose their tailor made holidays or luxury holidays with sustainability considerations in mind.

The hotels and hospitality sector has responded well to the challenge of meeting the increased demand by making sustainability a key focus, said Mr Couchman.

But some businesses may need greater support from the tourism bodies they are associated with to adopt eco-friendly practices and attract more customers, he added.
